Be -it kno-wn that I, JosnrH'J. SHIGK- LUNA, a citizen of the United States, re siding at Buffalo, in the count-y of Erie and State of New Yorlnliave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Polishing Mops, of which Ithe Afollowing is a specification. l

My invention relates to improvements in mops, and more Aparticularly to that type of mops known' as polishing mops and having a swab portion adapted to be saturated with 'a liquid polish for polishing finished hard wood floors and the like.

` The primary object of my inven-tion is to provide an improved device of this kind, which will permit of readily removing the swab from the mop head when it is desired to wash or 4otherwise cleanse the same, and to as readily apply the swab to the mop head. l

A further object of my linvention is to provide a mop head and an improved swab having a pocket into4 which the mop head lis to be inserted, with co-acting means on both for fastening the two together.

A still further object of my invention is to provide an improved 'swab having a mop head enclosing-portion and a mass of fibrous strands oryarns applied to said enclosingportion. l

lVith these and other objiects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts'to be hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the subjoined claims. i

The mop head is preferably cast but may be otherwise formed, either into triangular lshapel or otherwise. It is, however, preferably of triangular shape and has two foi'- wardly converging side or bounding members 5 and a transverse rear or bounding member 6; said members being connected together at 'the angles of the triangle, 'preferably by rounded portions?. Passing through the bolt holes in the clamping members and through the bushing 35 is a screw bolt 18 having an outwardly iared head at one end fitting into the countersunk portion of the bolt hole 16. Said screw bolt serves as a pivot and has the usual transverse lerf 19 and the countersunk portion of said bolt hole 16 has an inwardlydirected lip 2O fitting into the kerf of said bolt head at one end thereof, as best shown in Fig. 2. By the use of the bushing 35, the threads of the screw-bolt 18 cannot come in contact with the friction washers and said washers are kept in proper position when withdrawing the screw bolt.

Threaded onto the screw bolt at the opposite end thereof is a clamping nut 21 having an inwardly-projecting conical portion 22 adapted to have the outwardly-flaring opening or bolt hole 17 in the clamping member 12. With the parts constructed as described, the screw bolt is prevented from turning, and when tightening the nut 21, friction is created between the same and the wall of the bolt hole 17 to prevent loosening of said nut. The tightening of the nut also tends to draw the clamping

members

12, 13 of the connector-fitting toward each other so as to create friction' between the friction washers and th-e parts in contact therewith.

Projecting inwardly at an angle from the rounded portions 7 at the rear of the mop head are retainer prongs 23, said prongs being therefore at an angle to each other, and directed forwardly from the rear bounding member 6 midway between its ends is a third retaining prong 24, each prong having its extremity curved upwardly and pointed, as at 25, Fig. 2.

The swab 2 is formed of a mass of fibrous strands or yarns 26 sewed or otherwise fastened to a canvas or similar flat member 27 having substantially the shape of the mop head and having at Vopposite sides flaps 28 adapted to overlie the fiat portion, as shown in Fig. 3. These flaps may overlap, or abut as shown in Fig. 3, when folded, and along their marginal portions eyelets 29 are formed through which suitable lacing 30 is passed with the ends thereof tied, as at 31. Each of these side iaps has an eyelet 37 near its rear end, for a purpose to presently appear. At the rear of the fiat portion 25 is a flap 33 adapted to be folded forwardly over the flat portion 25 and this rear flap has eyelets 34 formed therein adapted to receive the pointed ends of the

ter the mop head is positioned within the pocket, the two retainer prongs 23 are entered in the eyelets 32 in the side flaps 23; the rear flap 30 is then folded over the rear of the mop head and the two end eyelets in said flap brought intol registration with the eyelets 33 in the side flaps, thus enabling the pointed extremities of the angular prongs 21 to be entered through said lastmentioned eyelets while the intermediate cycle-t of said rear Hap receives the pointed extremity of the forwardly-directed prongs 24 The mop then has the appearance shown in Fig. 1, with all of the mop head fully concealed, excepting the bolt receiving lug 9 and the extremities of the

By directing the retainer prongs 23, 24 in different directions, they serve as means to prevent accidental disconnection of the swab from the mop head, due to the counteracting pulling and pushing strains to which the swab is subjected during the manipulation of the mop.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A mop of the kind described comprising a Hat mop head having pointed retainer prongs extending upwardly at its rear end, a swab having a pocket portion to receive said mop head and a flap at its rear end folded onto said mop head and provided with eyelets through' which the prongs of said mop head are passed.

2. A mop of the kind described comprising a flat mop head having forwardly and upwardly-directed prongs at its rear end and a forwardly-directed prong between said iirst-mentioned prongs, a. swab having a flat pocket portion and a mass of fibrous strands or yarns applied to the upper side of said pocket portion, said pocket portion having also a flap at its rear end folded over the rear portion of said mop head and provided with eyelets adapted to receive said prongs.

A mop of the kind described comprising a triangular flat mop head having forwardly-converging side members connected together at their front ends and av rear transverse member connected to the rear ends of said side members, forwardly and inwardly directed prongs at the points of connection of said side members with said rear transverse member, a forwardly-directed prong on said rear transverse member between said first-mentioned prongs, and a triangular shaped envelope enclosing said mop head and having an opening through which said mop head is passed, a flap at the rear end of said envelope having eyelets adapted to receive the prongs at the rear of said mop head and a mass of fibrous strands or yarns secured to its under side.

4. A mop of the kind described, comprising a triangular open frame formed of forwardly converging side members and a rear cross member connecting the rear ends oi said side members, said frame having a pair of transverse connecting members between said rear cross member and the apex of the triangle, and an upstanding lug bridging the space between said transverse members, a handle attached to said upstanding lug and a swab provided with a triangular pocket into which said triangular open frame is inserted.

5. A mop of the kind described, comprising a triangular open frame having forwardly converging side members and a rear connecting member connected to the rear ends of said side members, diagonally-disposed prongs extending inwardly :from the points of connection orf said side members to said rear cross member, and a forwardly# directed prong extending from said rear cross member between said first-mentioned prongs, said frame having also a pair of transverse spaced members forward of said prongs and an upstanding lug bridging the space between said transverse members, a handle connected to said lugs, and a swab having a triangular pocket adapted to receive said triangular frame and a flap at its rear end adapted to fold over the rear portion of said frame7 said flap being provided with openings through which said prongs are passed.
