G. HUGUENIN v DEMIHUNTER WATGH Filed Mj 7, 1923 Patented Dec. 9, 1924.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DEMIHUNTEE.l WATCH.
Application led May 7, 1923. Serial No. 637,363.
To all lwhom it may concern.' y
Be it known that I, GEORGES HUGUENIN, citizen of the Confederation of Switzerland, residing at Le Locle, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful VImprovements in Demihunter Watches, of which the following is a specification.
The subject of the present invention is a demi-hunter-watch which differs from those manufactured hitherto in that its movement is fixed to a middle support which is preferably given the form of a plate. This middle support is hinged to the back of the watch and is under the influence of a spring, so that, when opening the cover, the support assumes an inclined position with respect to the back of the watch. Such an arrangement of the different parts of the watch allows the latter to Stand erect by means of its cover serving as a base, so that the watch can be used in travelling or for office use.
On the attached drawing are represented, by way of example, three forms of execution of a demi-hunter watch according to the present inve'ntion.
Figs. l, 2 and 3 relate to the first form of execution and are, respectively, a top view, a front View of the watch erect and standing on one side and a side View of the watch opened. Fig. 4 re resents a second form and Fig. 5 a third form of execution. Fig. 6 is a side view of Fig. 2; Fig. 7 is a view of the cover in section; and F ig. Sis a detail, showing the spring which acts on the middle support.A
Referring to Figs. 1, 2 and 3, it will be observed that the watch has no case band; its back a, is directly hinged to the cover b which shuts on the latter by means of a spring catch b. To the back of the watch is hinged a middle support c assuming the form of a thin, flat plate having a central opening in which the movement (L is introduced. The latter is only represented diagrammatically. It'is fixed to the middle Support c by a threaded ring c holdlng at the Same time the crystal pressed on said middle support. The cove-r b is provided,
with a central o en-ing b2 through which the dial is norma ly visible.
The shape of the support is such that it fits completely within the case and conforms to the inner outline thereof, which is not true of the movement. The pendant of the latter traverses the case thro-ugh grooves made for this purpose in the edges of the back and the cover.
lVhen opening the case, a. spring f, Fig. 8, which at the same time enoircles the axis of the hinge, by means of which the supporting plate c is connected to the back a, throws said plate outward and makes it assume an inclined position with respect to the back a.. The di'erent parts of the watch are then in the positions shown in Fig. 6. The demihunter watch can then be placed on a table and has 'in this respect the same qualities as a travelling or portfolio watch.
The form shown in Fig. 4 is so constructed as to constitute a bracelet-watch; for this purpose it is furnished with bracelet.- handles; the pendant is omitted and the crown hardly reaches beyond the case.
In the form represented in Fig. 5, the winding crown is concealed in the interior of the case so that for winding up the watch and adjusting the time it is necessary to open the watch;
I claim:
A demi-hunter watch, comprising a case embodying hinged back and cover members, the latter having a. central opening; a thin, flat Supporting plate hinged to the back and conformably fitting wholly within the same when the case is closed to permit the wat-ch to be worn in the ordinary manner; and a watch movement secured in a central opening in said plate and including a dial which is visible through the cover opening when said case is closed; the cover of the case being adapted torcst horizontally upon a fiat ybase when the case is opened, and the supporting plate being adapted to be swung forward and outward into inclined position with relation to the back and maintained in such position by Said cover.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
GEORGES HUGUENIN.
