NOLQOS, Patentledlune9,l874.
NTED STATES PATENT FFICE.
JOSEPH MOSES, OF LAPEER, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN WAGON-STANDARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 151 ,903, dated June 9, 1874; application filed December 2, 1873.
To all whom Ait may concern:
Be it known I, JOSEPH MOSES, of Lapeer, Lapeer county, and State ot' Michigan, have invented au Improvement in Wagon-Stakes, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of this invention relates to an improvement in the ironing of Wagon-stakes, whereby the back and side braces are formed from one piece of flat iron, giving great strength to the stake, and precluding the possibility of splitting the bolster. The invention consists in forming the brace-iron from a fiat piece of metal, one end ot' which is split, forming two Ybraces which are securely bolted, one to each side of the outer ends of the bolster, While the other is bent over the stake and down its inner face, passing through the bolster Where it is secured by a nut, as is more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing, which shows my invention in perspective, A'represents the bolster of a Wagon, to which is secured, by mortising or otherwise, the ordinary Wooden stake B. C is a brace-iron, one end of which is provided with a screw, a, and passed through the b01- ster immediately next the inner face of the stake. From thence it is bent to conform to the shape of the stake, passing up the inner edge and the top thereof and down its outer edge about half-Way. At this point the iron C is split, forming two braces, D D, which are bent outwardly, their ends embracing the sides ofthe bolster, to which they are rigidly secured by bolts or rivets b.
Constructing a wagon-stake in this manner gives greater strength of resistance than when constructed in the usual manner, and e'ects a considerable saving in expense, as it dispenses with the side braces and bolts generally used, of which there are eight.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with the bolsterAand standard B, the brace C, having the screw a and diverging and outwardly-curving arms D D, the latter being adapted to embrace the end of the bolster, as described.
JOSEPH MOSES.
