Description

A. P. M CORMICK STOCK AND DIE OILER Filed Nov. 25, 1922 Ant/tony PM! Cormicli INVENTOR WITNESS: A'ITORNEY Patented Dec. 9, 1924-.
P'I'ENT OFFICE.
ANTHONY P. MCCORMICK, OF EAG-LEVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
STOCK AND DIE OILER.
Application filed. November 25, 1922. Serial No. 603,356.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTHONY P. McCon- MICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eagleville, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stock and Die Uilers, of which the follow ing is a specification.
This invention relates to stock and die oilers and is particularly adapted for the oiling of hand operated devices or this nature. In other words, it is a device for supplying the oil necessary in the cutting of the threads by the stock and die.
One of the principal objects is to provide a device of this nature which shall be simple of construction, easily attached to any standard make of stock and die, and highly el'licient tor the purpose for which it is designed.
With these and other objects in view as will be more apparent, the invention consists in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claim, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1is a view of a standard stock and die or the kind in which the dies are internally located, the same being shown as fitted with my improved self-oiler.
Figure 2-is a sectional view of the same.
Figure 3is a view of another form of die in which the dies are exposed.
Figure 4tlS a side elevation of the same partly in section for better disclosure.
Like characters of reference refer to like parts in all the views.
Referring to the drawing in detail and particularly to Figure 1, 10 represents the stock of any ordinary and well-known equipment. These stocks are provided as shown with a plate 11 having an aperture or hole 12 where the oil is now introduced by means of a squirt can. The dies are indicated by the reference numeral 13. In applying my device to a stock and die of the type shown in Figure 1, I simply tap out one of the apertures or holes 12 and insert therein a standard street elbow 14- in the outer end of which is secured an. oil cup 15 which may be of any suitable and well-known type provided with an automatically closing vent 16 so that as the stock and die are revolved, the oil will not spill out. The elbow ll is of the type commercially known as a street elbow, in other words, an elbow in which the dian'aeter gradually increases from the rclatiwily varaight externally threaded portion to the angular-1y disposed internally threaded outlet. it will be readily understood that the oil will pass from the oil cup through the street elbow 14 and aperture l2 and drop on the pipe or rod being operated upon.
In the term shown in Figure 2, the plate 21 which holds the dies 18 is not provided when it come rom the manufacturer with any aperture. ii therefore drill a hole as at 17 into which I fit a special street elbow 18 having a bottom opening 19, the oil cup 15 may be the same as in the preceding form of the invention. The oil in this case flows from the oil cup into the street elbow 18 and drips from. the aperture 19 on to the pipe or rod being operated upon.
l fhile IE have described what I deem to be the most desirable embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself to the specific details of construction or material, nor to anything less than the whole of my inventicn as defined in the appended claim.
What I claim i The combination with a stock die provided with a threaded recess of a pipe elbow threaded into said recess, so as to form a closure for one end of the elbow, a lubricat ing cup carried by the elbow at the end remote tron'i the die engaging end, said elbow provided with a rel cively small outlet opening in its under surface outwardly of the portion thereof which is seated in said recess.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ANTHONY P. MGCORMICK.
