IBe it known that I, DAVID J. CoNAN'r, a citizen of the United States, and resident of San Jose, in the county o f Santa Clara and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pumps, of which the following is a specification.
It is the object of my invention to provide a pump bowl so formed as to greatly simplify the casting thereof, and so constructed as to be readily assembled with other bowls without additionalmechanical complications.
It is a further object of my invention to provide a wear ring for the pump runner that is held securely in position between the pump bowls themselves, thereby eliminating certain machine work and threading heretofore thought necessary.

The bowl 3 is in the presentpcase so shaped as to presenta cylindricalvsurface 6 drawn in as at 7 to a smaller neck portion 8 which is externally threaded as at 9.
. The lower edge of bowl 3 is threaded on the interior surface of its lower portion as at 11" and provided with an vannular shoulder 12 as shown. Extending inwardl from shoulder 12 is an annular flange 13 orming the lower end of thedischarge passage 14 of which the inner surface 15 of bowl 3 forms the outer wall. The upper edge of bowl 3 has an annular shoulderl formed therein as shown. f

In assembling the pump, the wear ring 17 is dropped into place in one bowl and then the runner is' put in place and the next bo-wl arranged in position and screwed tightly against the ange 1,'8 of said ring. p
Since the rings are all made accurately to size, particularly in thickness of flange 18 and the diameter of its outer edge, the bowls, bearings, rings and impellers all come into perfect alignment. 1
ybowls being The wear ring 17 must be held immovably in position since it acts as a bearing for the impeller 2, and it must be accurately centered with relation to the impeller for the same reason. By clamping the ring between two bowls as heretofore described the ring is securely held against movement without the use of bolts, screws or specially designed conformation of the ring and bowl such as necessitated by screwing them together. The mere assembling of the bowls automatically locks the ring in position, the shoulder 12 in bowl 3 being accurately formed to receive fiange 18 of the ring and accurately center the same.
A particular advantage of this form of construction and assembly is that the pump may be quickly and easily assembled on the job without the use of skilled labor.v Another articular advantage is that when it is desired to replace a worn wear ring it is only necessary to unscrew the pump bowls, lift the ring out and drop a new ringjin its place,
an operation easily performed y unskilled labor even under adverse conditions.
Referring again to the construction of bowl 3, its construction as set forth permits ready withdrawl of the pattern from the mold without the necessity of dividing the flask at the middle of the '85 mold as is necessary where the usual form of bowl is used,
this materially simplifying the forming of the -bowl in the rough. Byv threading the bowl as described and securing the wear ring in place in the manner set forth, the n'achine work on the bowl is greatly reduced being conned to its upper edge and shoulder 12 in addition to the usual parts surfaced to receive the impeller.
It is to be understood, of course, that while I have herein shown and described one parti`cular embodiment of my invention, changes in form, proportion, construction and method of operation may be made within the scope of the appended claims. l
I claim 1. In combination, a pair of pumpbowls,
means for securing said bowls together and in axial alignment, and a wear ring,lsaid formed to grasp said ring when secured together and hold the same immovably in concentric relation to said bowls.
2 In combination, a pair of interlocking pum bowls, and a wear ring engaging the inter ocking parts of both bowls and held in a fixed position thereby.
3. In combination, a pair of pump bowls threaded to engage each havinga shoulder formed'therein to receive a wear ring, and awear ring having an outwardly extending annular {iange adapt-ed to engage said shoulder and held in a fixed position by said bowls when completely engaged. 4. In combination, a. pump bowl having a shoulder formed on the inner surface of its other, one bowl 10 discharge' end and threaded on the outer Surface thereof, a second bowl threaded on the inner surface of its receiving end to engage the said threaded surface of said first mentioned bowl and having a shoulder formed on its inner surface adjacent said threaded portion, and a. wear ring having means formed thereon engaging the shoulders on both bowls when the threaded portionsl are engaged.l
