Description
M. L. MUNSON Dec. 9, 1924- FISH SCALER Filed June 28, 1924 INVENTO/f Nor/0n L. NuflJO i BY M 6 MTTORNE s Patented Dec. 9, 1924.
UNITED STATES MORTON L. MUNSON, OE LANSING, MICHIGAN.
FISH SCALER.
Application filed June 28,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Monron ll. MUNsoN.
a citizen of the United States, residing at Lansing, county of Ingham, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fish Sealers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in fish sealers.
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved fish sealer which is very economical to produce and at the same time is efficient, strong and durable.
Objects pertaining to details and economies of my invention will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. I is a perspective View oi my improved fish sealer.
Fig. II is a sectional View on a line corresponding to line 22 in Fig. I.
In the drawing similar numerals of reference indicate similar parts in both views.
Referring to the drawing, my improved implement comprises a handle 1 having a cylindrical portion 2 with a longitudinal groove 3 therein. The blade t is formed as a sheet metal stamping and has an integral shank portion 5 disposed substantially at right angles to the blade and terminating in a coil 6.
This coil 6 is of such diameter as to embrace the portion 2 of the handle under spring tension, the coil terminating in an inturned flange 7 engaged in the groove 3, the spring action holding this flange in the 1924. Serial No. 722,951.
groove. The coil is turned rearwardly relative to the shank so that any pressure exerted on the blade tends to clamp the shank to the handle rather than to loosen or disengage the same. The edge of the blade is preferably serrated as illustrated.
The parts of my imiproved implement are very economical to produce, are easily assembled and at the same time the structure is very strong and durable, any shrinking oi the wood handle being compensated for by the spring engagement of the shank therewith.
Further, as it is not necessary to bore the handle, as is necessary when the blades are provided with tangs, the handle is not weakened or likely to be split so it is not necessary to use high grade wood.
l laving thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An implement of the class described comprising a handle having a cylindrical portion with a longitudinal groove therein, and a serrated blade having an integral shank disposed at an angle thereto and terminating in a coil em bracing said cylindrical portion of said handle under spring tension and having an inturned flange at its longitudinal edge engaged in said groove in said handle.
2. r-in implement oil the class described comprising a handle having a cylindrical portion with a longitudinal groove therein, and a blade having a shank portion terminating in a coil embracing said cylindrical portion of said handle under spring tension and having an inturned flange at its longitudinal edge engaged in said groove in said handle.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
MORTON L. MUNSON. [L. s.]
