Description

Dec. 2, 1924. 4 1,517,984
o. G. HARVEY COMBINED WRIST STRAP AND S LEEVE PROTECTOR Filed Mar ch s, 1925 Patented Dec. 2, 1924.
raw-a OLE G. HARVEY, OF HARDY, IOWA.
COMBINED WRIST STRAP AND SLEEVE PROTECTOR.
Application filed March 3, 1923. Serial No. 622,560.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, OLE G. HAnviiy, a citizen of Norway, residing at Hardy, inthe county of Humboldt and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Wrist Straps and Sleeve Protectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
lVhile the invention is primarily intended to provide a sleeve protector and wristv for the use of corn huskers, nevertheless it is to be understood that the invention is susceptible of general application and may be employed whenever an article of the nature stated is required.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
lVhile the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention.
Referringto the accompanying drawings forming a part of the application,
Figure 1. is a perspective View illustrative of the invention,
Figure 2 is a perspective view with the protector partly open and the wrist and arm straps extended, and
Figure 3 is a transverse section.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The protector is adapted to be provided in different sizes and comprises a sleeve 1 of a length to extend from the wrist to a point above the elbow, said sleeve consisting of duck or other suitable textile and tapering slightly throughout its length and longitudinally curved to conform more readily to the arm when crooked. The sleeve 1 has openings 2 and 3 at opposite ends to facilitate placing of the article in position or re moving it from the arm and for tightening to hold it in place when in position. A strap at is loosely fitted within a hem or tuck 5 provided at the upper end of the sleeve 1 and is designed to secure the article about the arm at a point slightly above the elbow. A relatively broad strap 6 is attached to the lower end of the sleeve 1 and secures the same about the wrist, said strap also serving as reinforcing means for the wrist in substantially the same manner as the usual wrist strap. An opening 7 is provided in an end of the strap 6 adjacent the buckle and is designed to receive the opposite narrow end of the strap to facilitate tightening the same when adjusting the article to arm and wrist. The lower portion of the sleeve 1 has a reinforcement 8 applied thereto, such reinforcement consisting of material adapted to resist wear, mule hide being preferred. The reinforcement 8 extends from the wrist to a point beyond the elbow and is of a width to extend along the sides of the sleeve to afford ample protection.
It is the intention to provide the device in different sizes and of various materials, according to the particular use. When placed in position, it affords protection for the sleeve of the usual garment, such as a shirt or coat, and is retained in place by means of the arm strap 4 and wrist strap 6, the latter also serving to strengthen the wrist of the wearer in a manner well understood.
What is claimed is:
An article of the character specified comprising a sleeve of textile material, a relatively Wide wrist strap at the lower end of the sleeve adapted to be wrapped about the wrist to strengthen the same and to secure the sleeve in place, and an elongated leather reinforcement 011 the lower side of the sleeve extending longitudinally from the wrist strap.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
OLE G. HARVEY. lVitnesses JOHN SzEzErANsKI, JOSEPH Z. PANKA.
