Application med November 16, 1923. Serial No. 675,124.
To allwhomz'tmay concern: v
.Be it known that JONAS Non'rmxor, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hopedale, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Looms and I do hereby declare the following` to be a full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to an improvement in weft replenishing looms.v
The object of the invention is to improve the construction of weft replenishing looms in order to adapt to pivoted picker A'stick looms weft replenishing mechanism of thel well-known .Northrop type. To this vend the invention consists in the loom hereinafter described and particularly defined in the claims.
iioor plates occupy the. f Fig. 2 and support the pic In the accom anying drawings illustrate ing the preferre form of the invention, Fig. 1 isa plan view of the weft replenishin end of the lay, a portion of the frame sing shown in section; Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 2-2, Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the weft replenishing end ofthe lay; Fig. 4 is a plan of the same with the shuttle box removed; and Fig. 5 is a cross-section taken on the line 5--5, Fig. 1.
The illustrated embodiment tion is described as slotted at 11 to afford egress for the exhausted bobbin or the bobbin from which the ofl the inventhread has broken upon replenishment ofv the shuttle. The lay is provided witha front box late 12 and a binder 13 pivoted at 14 to the Eack box plate. The ioor of the liy 1s provided with pivoted iioor plates 15 an 16, the frontiloor plate 15 beingpivoted at.17 on thelay, and the back iioor p ate 16 being pivoted at 18, and both normally held in the position shown in Fig. 2 by the springs l19 and 20, see Fight.
In the ordinary operation-of the loom the position shown in er 21. The picker stick 22 is received in a central opening in the picker, and being pivoted at its lower end instead of being mounted Aon a motion, as in many looms, its u per end rises throu li the aperture in e picker when the s uttle is picked. This necessitetes providing the box lips to hold the paralle follows: The lay 10 is` l hausted MASSACHUSETTS; A. CORPORATION OF MASSA- LOOSE.
picker on the floor of the lay. The li 23 on the front box plate extends rearwardlljy over the shuttle, and the lip 24 on the rear box plate extends forwardly over the shuttle and thereby holds the picker from rising when 60 thficker stick throws the shuttle.
en the bobbin is being ejected from the shuttle the picker occupies the position shown in Fig. 1, and it is then necessary to open the swinging floor as tojpermit the ejection of the bobbin through the slot in the lay. To this end means are provided for actuating the oor plates. A {ioorpplate actuating slide is mounted in the lay transversely of nearv the bottom, asshown' in Fig. 2, and
when it is moved in thedi'rection of the arrow 31'its upwardly projecting end 32 enfv gagesthe projecting arm v33 secured by screwsvon the end of the back floor plate 16 75 and moves'it-out to the position shown in `4. Atthe same time a lever 34 pivoted l at35 one.. casting secured to the lay is operated the slide v,30,.tlie lateral proJection 36 of whichvengages the lower end of the lever 34 to sfngthe jlever clockwise,l as seen in Fig. 2so :as thereby to cause the upper end of the lever 34'to press against the projecting arm 37 secured tothe front 'iioor plate 15 to move it forwardly, pso asthereby to swing 85,
the *front'iioorfv late forwardly into the position shown in ig. l4.
The means for. actuatin the slide 30 is found in the block 38 whic slides vertically on the "lheadl 39 of. a portionof 40 of the loom, the block 38 being pivotally mounted on the bolt `41. secured in the rear ,end of the lever 42 which is .secured to the change shaft 43. The lever 42is a two-part affair, the rear end being pivoted on the arm 44 by means of the pin 45, and a bolt 46 being provided which the lever 42 and a slot 47 in the arm 44, so that the position of the arm, 42 with respect to the chan e shaft 43 maybe adjusted to present 100 the b ook 38to the end of the slide 30 when the change shaftis o erated, and then as the lay beats forward the endof the slide 30 strikes the block,-.and swung o en `to permit obbin. 'y
' The resent invention permits the use of a pivote picker stick with bobbin changing looms. This is a feature of advantage in the application ofV weft replnmlg .the iioor plates are plates 15 and 16 so 65 the same 70 the frame 9o passes through a hole in the egress of the ex- 106 mechanism 110 'changing type to looms, as it enlarges the field of sale of such attachments to include a class of looms not heretofore adapted to receive such attachments.
