IMPROVEMENT IN BREAST-COLLARS FO R HARNESS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 151,758, dated June 9, 1874; application filed March 14, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE P. COLE, of J ohnstown, in the county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented a new and Im proved Breast-Collar for Harness, of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a breast-collar with my improvement applied to it. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation with a part of the neckstrap sectioned; and Fig.3 is a diagram, showing the method of constructing the neck-strap, so as to secure the oval or convex form of the under side.

A is the breast-strap; B, the neck-strap or pad; 0, the forward suspending-straps; D, the rearward suspending-straps E, middle or vertical suspending-straps; F, the spring in the neck-strap and G the spring in the breaststrap.
The springs prevent the breast and neck strap from doubling as short at the middle as they do without them, and thus distribute the pressure more evenly, and relieve the sides when the pressure is light.
To make the neck-strap I cut the upper stitl piece of leather H in the elliptical form'represented in Fig. 3, cut out a piece from the middle of similar form, sew the inner edges together to spring up the outer edges, sew on the middle strap 1 over the joint, first placing the spring under it, and then line the under side with a thin soft piece, J, thus giving an oval form to the under side, which is easier to the neck than a flat. strap, and it saves padding to produce the oval form.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A neckstrap, B, consisting of the elliptical piece H, top piece I, bottom piece J, and internal spring F, put together in the manner described.
