Patented Dec. 2, 1924.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARIE NORDSTROM AND ELLIOTT R. BROWN, OF NEW YORK. N. Y.
TOOTHBRUSH HOLDER.
Application filed October 10, 1923.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, MARIE NORDSTROM and Enmo'rr R. BROWN, citizens of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful. Improvements in Toothbrush Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in brush holders and has more particular reference to a holder for tooth brushes whereby the same may be placed therein when not in use for consequently preventing the collection of dirt or other foreign mat ter within the bristles of the brush.
The primary object of our invention is to provide a device of the above character whereby tooth brushes may be positioned therein when not in use for maintaining the same in a clean and sanitary condition, this improved tooth brush holder embodying a removable disinfectant container that is formed with perforations for allowing the fumes of the disinfectant to pass outwardly therefrom and to circulate through the bristles of the brush for effectively killing any germs nestling therein.
An additional object is to provide a tooth brush holder wherein the same may be manufactured and marketed at relatively small cost and wherein the device is so constructed as to enable the same to be readily cleaned whenever necessary.
With the above general objects in View and others that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same comprises the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more full described, shown in the accompanying rawings and claimed.
In the drawings wherein there is shown the two most practical embodiments of the present invention and wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout Figures 1 to 6, inclusive,
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the preferred embodiment of the present invention,
Figure 2 is a detail vertical transverse section taken substantially upon the line 22 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a top plan View of my improved tooth brush holder,
Figure 4 is a bottom plan view thereof,
Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view Serial No. 667,767.
showing more clearly the relative position of the removable disinfectant contained within the holder,
Figure 6 is an enlarged perspective View of this disinfectant container, per se, and
Figure 7 is a View similar to Figure 5, showing a slightly modified form of the invention, this modified form of the invention not including the before mentioned removable disinfectant container.
Now having reference to the drawing, and particularly to Figures 1 to 6, inclusive, our novel tooth brush holder embodies the provision of a container 5 preferably of sheet metal, the same being of any size desirable and being preferably relatively U-shaped in cross section as more clearly shown in F igure 5.
The rear flat wall of the said receptacle 5 is formed at its opposite ends with extensions 6 that are formed with openings whereby the receptacle may be securely fastened to the wall or other suitable support.
The upper end of said casing 5 is open and hingedly secured to the upper open end thereof slightly spaced from the rear wall is a hinged cover 7 that is flanged at its front and side edges for fitting over the upper open end of the receptacle for thereby preventing the entrance of dirt or moisture into the receptacle. For allowing the handle of the tooth brush to extend outwardly of the receptacle 5, said cover 7 is formed at its front edge with a cut-out 8. Figures 2 and 3.
Adapted to be removably positioned within the receptacle 5 and this at the back side thereof due to the space between the cover 7 and rear wall of the receptacle, is a flat-like container 9 that is adapted to hold a batch of disinfectant felt, cotton or other absorbent material, the top wall. of this member 9 being equipped with a knob 10 for facilitating the sliding of the same inwardly or outwardly of the receptacle 5.
The bottom wall of the receptacle 5 as well as the side walls thereof adjacent the back wall of the receptacle is formed with numerous perforations as shown in the majority of the views for facilitating ventilation. It will also be noted from a con-- sideration of Figure 6. that the disinfectant carrying container 9 is formed at its front wall with a large number of erforation 11 whereby the fumes of the disinfectant may min m lhvi-i-l'rmn l'm vn'mingling with 110 liiisllos ml the l'llllHl) {in' consequently killing; any QWIHF that vnlhwt thm'vin.
