lVith the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, with-- in the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.

in carrying out the invention, there is provided a body 1 of any desired shape and preferably made of metal, the body being supplied at its upper end with an overhanging flange 17 whichforms a stop, preventing the snow rom sliding off the body. The body 1 is provided along its upper edge and along its sides with a marginal stifiening head 2. A blade 3 is overlapped on the forward surface of the body 1 at the lower end thereof and is connected thereto by securing elements 4, the blaue preferably being made of tempered steel, so as to withstand wear.

The device comprises a reinforcing frame, including diverging braces 6, united at their upper ends by a connecting portion 61 received in a notch formed in the forward edge of a reinforcing member 5, hereinafter mentioned. The frame above alluded to is Serial No. 594,107.

applied to the rear surface of the body 1 and is held thereon, at its lower ends, by certain of the securing elements 1, which pass through the lower ends of the diverging brace members 6 of the frame. A socket 8 abuts against the rear surface of the body 1 of the shovel and has an upstanding lip 9. The aforesaid. reinforcing member 5 is formed integrally with the lower end of the socket 8 and extends downwardly along the body 1 of the shovel, the lower end of the reinforcing member being connected to the body by one of the securing elements 4. Depending flanges 29 are formed integrally with the socket S and with the reinforcing member 5 and are located on opposite sides of the reinforcing member. The flanges .39 are overlapped on the connecting portion 61 which joins the braces 6. Securing members 7 pass through the flanges 29, through the connecting portion 61. of the braces 6, and through the body 1. The forward wall 51 of the socket 8 is upwardly extended and carries a transverse annular keeper 10. The numeral 11 marks a handle, provided at its upper end with the grip 12. The handle 11 passes downwardly through the keeper l0 and has a tapered end 14 received in the socket 8. A securing element 16 passes through the rear wall of the socket 8 and enters the tapered end 1 1 of the handle 11. A. securing device 15, such as a rivet, is engaged with the keeper 10, with the forward wall 51 of the socket, with the body 1, and with the handle 11.

Theresulting product is a snow shovel well adapted to withstand hard use and so constructed that the snow will slip readily therefrom. Should any of such parts as the member 5 and the socket 8, or the frame including the brace member 6 become broken, they may be replaced readily, and it will be unnecessary to throw away the entire shovel.

hat is claimed is 1. In a device of the class described, a body, an integral reinforcing frame including diverging braces united by a connecting portion, a socket bearing against the body and provided at its lower end with a reinforcing member bearing against the body and located between the braces, the reinforcing member being thicker than the connecting portion of the frame and being provided in its forward edge with a notch through which the connecting portion of the frame passes, and means for securing the frame and the reinforcing member to the body.

A device of the class described, constructed as set forth in claim 1, and further characterized by the fact that said means embodies flanges on the socket on opposite sides of the reinforcing member, and overlapped on the connecting portion of the frame; and securing elements uniting the flanges, the connecting portion and the body.
