To all whom ithmay concern:
Be it known that I, EUGENE GAMPBELL, of
i South Westerlo, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Snow-Shovel, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a longitudinal section of my improved shovel, taken through the line .r @Figa 2. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts'.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved wooden snow-shovel, w-hich shall be vso constructed that it may be used for shoveling the snow7 from a tin, zinc, or cement roof Without injuring the roof.
The. invention consists in the combination of the runners with the blade of a shovel, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the blade of a Wooden snow,- shovel, which is provided With a handle, B, in the usual Way. The edge ofthe blade A may be faced with thin sheet metal C, to prevent Wear. D are beads or ribs, which are attached to the under sideof the blade A, andthe forward ends of which are curved upward to serve as runners, to slide over the roof when the shovel is being used.
The runners D prevent the edge ofthe blade A from catching upon the seams of a metal roof, or upon inequalities in a cement roof, and thus protects the roof from beinginjured. The runners D also cause the shovel to work easier as they slide over the surface, and prevent the blade from rubbing upon said surface.
I do not limit myself to Wooden shovels, as
lthe runners D can be applied4 to shovels of
