PHILIP E. KOPP, OF KANSAS CITY, IVHSSOURI.
COMBINED FAUCET AND STOPER FOR CONTAINERS.
Application led June 23, 1924. Serial No. 721,729.
To all iii/1,0m may concern.'
Be it known that l, PHIL-1r E. KOPP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and 5 State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Combined Faucet and Stopper for Containers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to combined faucets and Stoppers, and the object of the invention is to provide a simple and useful device of this character which may be used and applied to containers of every description, as a faucet when it is desired to pour the contents of the container and, when reversed.7 as a stopper to prevent the spilling or pouring of the contents.
I attain these objects and advantages by means of the structures and parts illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure l, is a top plan View of a container to which my invention is applied; Figure 2, is a top plan view of the complete device functioning as a faucet; Figure 3, is a vertical section of the device, on the line 3 3, on Figure 2, and Figure fl, is a vertical section of the device functioning as a stopper.
Similar numerals of reference refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings-the numeral l, designates a container to which my invention is applied. The combined faucet and stopper comprises a screw socket member 2, and a screw plug member 3. The socket member consists of a socket portion 4, having internal screw threads 5, which member is secured in the wall of the container, preferably the top plate thereof, and also having centrally located a barrel 6, having a tight bottom, the barrel being extended downwardly into the container a suitable distance, for a purpose that will hereinafter be explained. A series of holes 8, are apertured in the head of the socket member outwardly of the mouth of the barrel 6, which holes communicate with the interior of the container and through which is poured the contents of the latter.
The plug member 3, consists of a hollow plug which is fashioned with external screw threads adapted for screwing into the socket member. Centrally of the outer side of the head of the plug member a hole is apertured .f-
in the head, in which hole is secured a faucet tube 9. @n the outer side of the head of the plug member may be imposed a gasket 10.
rllhe socket member is secured in the wall of the container with the faucet tube thereon. extending into the interior of the container. The container is filled through the holes 8. TvVhen the container is filled the spout or faucet tube of the plug member is inserted into and telescoped with the barrel on the socket member and the plug screwed down in the latter member until the head portion of the plug member bears on the inner side of the socket member, thereby stopping the holes 8. When it is desired to pour some or all of the contents of the container, the plug member is removed and again screwed in the socket in inverted position, so that the faucet tube shall extend outwardly of the container. The reversed position of the screw plug relative to the socket, opens the holes 8, the plug member, in this position functions as a faucet, the contents of the container pouring through the holes 8, into the hollow portion of the plug member and through and out of the faucet tube thereon. Alfter pouring the contents of the container, the plug member is removed and screwed in reverse position into the socket until the head of the plug member shall stop the holes 8.
Having described my invention what I claim is* In a combined faucet and stopper for containers, the combination with the container, of a screw socket member combined with the container and provided centrally of its head portion with a depending barrel and with a series of holes in t-he head for the passage of the contents of the container, and a hollow screw plug member removably mounted in said socket member and provided centrally of its head portion with a faucet tube which extends into and telescopes with the barrel on said socket member How rthrough said openings and said faucet to permit the head of the plug member to tube.
stop the holes in the head of the socket member when the plug member is functioning as a stopper, said hollow plug member when screwed into the socket member in inverted position permitting a free PHILIP E. KOPP. Witnesses A. J. WALKER, Y HAZEL TREADWAY.
