This invention relates to a device for supporting garments such as trousers and so forth.

According to the present invention a supporting member is provided with one or more slots or recesses for the reception of one or more pairs of laths between which the end of the garment is clamped. One pair of ends of the laths are adapted to be inserted into the slots or recesses and "the opposite ends are preferably connected together by a connecting piece secured to the adjacent ends, and adapted to hold the said ends together but enabling the laths to be sufficiently separated for introducing the garment between them.

In the accompanying drawing is shown by way of example one form of construction according to the present invention Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the supporting member.

The supporting member a; is provided with one or more slots or recesses b, which are preferably flared upwards at the upper edge, as shown at 0 so as to enable the convenient introduction of the laths 6 into the holes I). The member I) is adapted to be secured to a wall or other surface or into the interior of a wardrobe or the like by means of screws d.

The laths e are provided with straight surfaces on their outer sides but on their inner sides are slightly bulged out for which purpose the laths are made thicker at the middle than at the ends. By this arrange-- ment the garment will be effectively clamped between the two laths when the free ends thereof are placed into the slots 6. The forward ends of the laths e are connected together by a connecting strip 9, suitably secured thereto, and made of metal,

preferably sheet metal or steel, or of leather, or other suitable material. The connecting piece gserves to hold the laths together at their forward end and at the same time serves to hold the laths in alignment after their other ends have been introduced into the slots or recesses i), and to press them against the end of the garment.

In order-to facilitate introduction of the ends of the laths 6 into the slots or recesses Z, the lower ends of said laths may be suitably rounded off as indicated at h as the top flat surface of the laths will engage with the top portion of the slots 7) and thus retain the laths in a horizontal position.

The member a and the laths 3) may be made of metal, wood or other suitable ma terial, but are preferably made of wood so that they can be polished to correspond with the surrounding furniture or with the furniture in which they are to be secured.

Although the slots or recesses shown on the drawings are rectangular and the laths are made of a suitable shape to engage therewith, it will be understood that the slots or recesses may be made of any other shape, such as round or oval, and if desired may also be tapered the outer surfaces of the laths being made of corresponding shape so as to engage with the slots. The holder may be of any suitable cross section so that it may be fixed or suspended in suitable positions. It may also be square, circular, oval, or other suitable outline in plan with recesses in. its periphery for the reception of the various pairs of laths so that it may be mounted on a vertical support, for example.

The width of the slots or recesses is made somewhat wider than the thickness of one pair of laths so as to allow for the accommodation of the end of the garment between the laths and to exert the necessary pres sure on the ends of the laths in order to retain the end of the garment clamped between them.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is 1. A garment holder comprising a supporting member having a slot therein, a pair of laths between which the garment is adapted to be received, the adjacent sides of the laths being bulged inwardly whilst the outer sides of the laths are flat, one pair of adjacent ends of said laths being entirely be detachab-ly fitted into said slot, and a flexible member secured to the other pair of adjacent ends of said latlis'for securing said ends together, the arrangement being such that when the free ends of the laths are inserted into the slot the laths by reason of the inward bulging are caused to exert a uniform pressure on the end of the garment which is clamped between them.

A garment holder comprising a supporting member having a plurality of slots .therein, a plurality of pairs of laths be- 7 tween which the ends of garments are adapted to -be received, the adjacent sides of each pair of laths being bulged inwardly whilst the outer sides. of the laths are flat, one pair of adjacent ends of each pair of laths being entirely free from each other slots,

and being adapted to be detachably' fitted into a corresponding slot, and a plurality oi flexible members secured one to each pair of laths so as to secure the adjacent ends of said pairs of lathe-together, the arrange ment being such that when the ends of the separate pairs of laths are inserted into the corresponding slots the inward bulging of the lathe causes a uniform pressure to be exerted on the end of the garment clamped between the laths, each pair of laths being separately detachable so that they can be removed with the garment between them without disturbing any of the other pairs of laths engaging with their corresponding all the pairs of laths being supported in a horizontal position by a single supporting member.
