To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEONARD J. Fox, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and-State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Securing Name Plates, of whichthe following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a construction by which one plate can be readily and easily secured to another member, and it is especially designed for securing such name plates to the radiator shells of automobiles, in which the shell is usually constructed of comparatively thin sheet metal and a circular opening with an inturned flange is usually provided in which the name plate is to be secured.
It is to be understood, however, that the construction is equally applicable for securing one plate to another where the receiving plate is sufliciently thick as not to require a flanged opening.
The invention consists of that certain novel construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter particularly pointed out and claimed.

with a circular opening therein provided with an inwardly extending flange 2.
The name plate 3 has secured to its back a circular member 4 with a projecting flan e 5 which flange is divided into sections by Iongitudinal cuts 6, so as to allow the flange members to be expanded slightly.
In order to press the flange sections outwardly, a dished, annular spring plate 7 is forced within the flan e and the outer edge of the spring lplate orces outwardly the outer edge of t e flange sections form a slightly curved enlargement 8, wh ch 1s 1llustrated, somewhat exaggerated, in Figure 1923. Serial No. 649,505.
4. In order to hold the annular spring plate 7 in this position, I'punch teats 9, 10, on the inside of the flange members so that a seat is provided for the spring plate 7 to lock it in position. Instead of this means for securing the spring plate, beads might be formed on the flange members or some other well known method employed to lock the spring plate in place.
, The spring plate is slightly larger in diameter than the diameter of the flange memher into whichit is inserted and the edge of the spring plate snaps past the outer row of teats and seats itself between that row and the inner row. The outer edge of the spring plate, it will be understood, bears against the flange at a point just beyond the outer edge of the flange 2 of the plate 1, so that when the name plate is pushed into place the portion 8 will engage over the edge ofthe flange 2 and thus will lock the name plate in position.
While I have illustrated the spring plate as a dished ring, it will, of course, be understood that the spring plate can be formed from a solid disk wlthout any opening at the'center and the parts may be so designed that such disk spring plate, whether solid or open, may rest centrally on the name plate, instead of finding a seat on the teats 9.
As the flange member 5 on the name plate is slightly larger than the diameter of the opening 1n the holding plate, there will be frictional contact between the two flanges, but the engagement of the part 8 over the edge of the holding flange 2 looks the plates a name plate to be secured thereto, the name.
