These ruhhor disks serve to prevent escape of the powdered chalk from the casing. because of the faut that the openings therein are slightly smaller than the diameter of the chalk line. and therebyY fit snugly.

It will he seen that when the line is secured to a roof, or other place to be marked with a chalk line the operator grasps the casing and moves the same toward the other end of the line. with the result that as the line runs through the casing;r the same Will draw some o the powdered chalk into one of the recesses ot the lead sphere, compres sing the Chalk into the line, any excess o chalk on the line being wiped therefrom by the walls of the small opening of the rubber disk 29.
