This-invention relates to robes such for example as are used'in automobiles and car- 'riages and which. are generally of a rectangular shape and which are made of various materials. A. rug, shawl or similar article is included by the term robe as used in connection with this invention.

The objectof the invention is to provide for the ready conversion of such a robe into a wrap which will substantially fit the person of the wearer, and which conversion can be efiected without cutting or changing the shape of the robe.

The object of the invention is to provide a convertible robe and wrap in which no change is made in the shape or construction of the robe'and in which the robe is readily and quickly converted when desired into a wrap substantially fittingthe person 'of'the wearer simply by engagement of the members of separable fasteners.

The invention is of specialuse in emergenoies as in the case of a person traveling unprovided with a wrap or overcoat and it enables a very satisfactory wrap fitting the person quickly and readily to be provided.

The nature and object of the invention will appear more fully from the accompanying description and drawings and will be.-

particularly pointed out in the claim.

The robe, samples of which are shown in Figs. 3 and 7, may be of any suitable size and material. The ordinary automobile robe is adapted to make a wrap which corresponds to a heavy overcoat reaching nearly to the ankles of the wearer when this invention is employed.

In order to embody this invention it is only necessary to provide such a robe with a plurality of separable fasteners each comprising two members and arranged in the required positions on the robe. The term separable fastener is employed herein as a generic-term to indicate any suitable device for this purpose. The ordinary button and button hole is the simplest form of separable fastener and there are a wide variety of such devices. 3

In the'preferred constructions illustrated the separable fasteners are shown of the usual ball and socket type but the invention is independent of the particular type of separable fastener employed.

In Fig. 3 that side of the robe is illustrated which forms the outside of the wrap and if the robe has a wrong and a right side this would be the right side. In order to indicate the proper position of the members of the separable fastener they are indicated on the drawings by the following letters having the following significance. Srepresenting the socket of the socket member Brepresenting the ball of a ball member. HSrepresenting the head or back of a socket member which projects from the opposte side of the robe. representing the head or back of a ball Ian-a of the robe.

The principal feature by which the robe is converted into a substantially fitting wrap resides in the position of the separable fastener members by which a collar portion is formed which enables the robe when converted into the wrap to fit the neck and shoulders of the person. This is secured by placing midway an edge such as the longer edge 1 of the robe and adjacent the edge one of the members such as a socket memberv 2 of a separable fastener and by placing on a line normal to the said edge eX- tending from the member 2 the cooperating fastener member such as the ball member 3. Then now these fastener members 2 and 3 are brought into engagement a fold is formed as shown at 4 in Figs. 1 and 2 in the central portion of the said robe edge 1 tapering away at both sides of the medial line upon which the fas tener members 2 and 3 are located to present a collar having a roll or shawl effect which enables the robe to fit the neck and shoulders of a person when wearing as a wrap.

A second feature of importance enables the robe when converted into a wrap to fit the arms of the wearer. This result is secured by providing separable fasteners at each of the

side edges

5 and 6 of the robe extending from the edge 1. One member of each of these separable fasteners is arranged near one of each of the end corners of the said edge 1. This is shown in eachcase as a socket member 7 projectlng from the opposite side of the robe. The cooperating members are arranged adjacent the edges 5 and,

each side of the medial line and at or beyond theends of the collar portion 4. In the construction illustrated one separable fastener comprising a ball member 10 and the socket member 11 projecting at theopposite side ofthe robe are shown just at the end of the collar portion 4 and a second separable fastener comprising a ball member 12 and a socket member 13 projecting on the opposite side of the robe are shown further along adjacent the edge 1. Thus when the members 1'0 and 11 are fastened the robe will be buttoned snugly about the neck of the wearer and if the

members

12 and 13 are fastened the robe will be buttoned over the chest.

It is found in practice that by the use of this arrangement of separable fasteners the robe is readily converted into a wrap which very substantially and closely fits the neck,

shoulders, and arms of a person and which tened in the opposite direction from that shown in Figs. 1 to 3.

In this construction the members of the fastenerby which the collar is formed are shown as a socket member 14 and a ball member 15. The outer-or socket member is spaced from the edge 16 of the robe at a dis,-

tance corresponding substantially tov the desired height of the collar at the back and the inner or ball member 15 is spaced from the socket member 14 a distance which is substantially twice the distance'the' socket member 14 is spaced from the edge 16.

Consequently when these members are brought into engagement as shown in F ig.

6 the central portion of the edge of the robe is formed into a collar portion 17 having three thicknesses of the robe material and presenting a stand-up effect.

18 and 19 are shown as socket members" projecting on the opposite side of the robe and cooperating respectively with ball members 20 and 21 so that when the'robe' is fastened at the front as shown in Fig. 4 it is fastened with the left hand side foremost.

The arrangement of the separable fastener members by which the folds forming the sleeves are formed is the same as that already described.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let-- ters Patent is- A robe having the two membersof a separable fastener arranged adjacent and midway one of the edges and on a line normal to the said edge and so positioned that by the engagement of said fastener members-alone a fold isformed in the central portion of said robeedge' tapering away at both sides of said medial line to present a'c'ollar, a second separable fastener having its two members arranged adjacent the said edge beyond the collar portion and at opposite-sides of the said medial line, a pair of separable fasteners having one member of each arranged near the end corners of said edge and the other cooperating member of each arranged adjacent the edges extending from said corners and so spaced that when the said members are respectively engaged sleeve like folds are formed in the robe thus enabling the robe to fit the neck, shoulders and arms of a person and be Worn as a 10 Wrap.
