UNITED STATEs PATENT OEEIcE.
JOHN w. WHEELER, 0E CLEVELAND, 01110, ASSIGNOR 0E ONE-HALE HIS RIGHT T0 M. e. BROWNE, 0E sAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENTIN CLOTHES-WRINGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,917, dated May 12, 1874; application filed March 2, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J. W. WHEELER, of Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and Improved Glothes-Wringer, of which the following is a complete description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which-- Figure l is a side view of the clothes-wringer. Fig. 2 is an end view. Fig. 3 is a top view.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the several views.
The nature of this invention relates to a clothes-wringer; and the special object of the invention is to produce a pressure of the rollers upon each other by the use of hoops, springs,- and boxes placed upon the ends of the roller-shafts, whereby they are drawn upon each other.
The following is a description of the invention: A B are the sides of the frame, in which the rollers G are journaled, and of which D are the shafts. Said rollers are made to press one upon the other by the hoop-springs E placed on over the proj ecting ends of the shafts, as shown in Fig. 2, in which figure it will be seen that between the springs and the shafts are inserted boxes F, over which the springs are placed, and thereby kept from direct contact withthe shafts.
By the application of the above-described springs to the rollers, they are caused to run upon each other with great pressure, but not so much but that they readily yield to articles passed between them.
These half-boxes are placed upon the ends of the shafts, as shown in Fig. 2, and do not change their position.
I am aware that springs have been used at the ends of wringer-rolls in combination with pulley s, and I do not, therefore, broadly claim such device; but
I claim- The combination, with the hoop-spring E and rollers O, of the half-boxes F, constructed and arranged as and for the purpose herein specified.
JOHN W. WHEELER.
