Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 17,1905.
Application filed January 12, 1905. Serial No. 2%,686-
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN A. WHITE, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Oxford, in the county of Butler and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mop-Wringers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to mop-wringers in which a pair of rollers is supported in a pail and the mop is drawn between these rollers to squeeze the water therefrom. I
The object of the invention is to produce an improved device characterized particularly by novelty and improvement with respect to the means for adjusting the rollers to vary the 1 distance of one from the other, and consequently vary the amount of pressure applied to the mop.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the wringer with the pail in section. Fig. 2 is a plan view.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 6 indicates the pail. Within this pail, near the top thereof, are placed the two rollers 7 and 8. These are supported at one end by a pair of brackets 9 and at the other end by a bar 10, the brackets and bar being fixed to the sides of the pail. The bearing of the'roller 8 is fixed in the bracket and bar, but the axle of the roller 7 extends through slots, so that it has lateral yielding movement when a mop is drawn therebetween. A spring 11 is connected between one end of the axle of the roller 7 and the bracket 9, and a spring 12 isconnected between the other end of the axle of said roller and the axle of the roller 8. These springs provide the requisite pressure, tending to hold the rollers together.
To adjust the relative positions of the rollers with respect to each other and to limit the inward movement of the roller 7 toward the roller 8, I provide two rods 13 and 14:, which have eyes near the end through whichthe axle of the roller 7 extends, and these rods pass and work freely through holes in the sides of the pail and are threaded to receive on the outside of the pail adjusting-nuts 15. One nut bears against a washer 16, secured to the side of the pail, and the other nut bears against an angle-piece 17 fixed on the outer side of the pail.
By holding the rollers apart to the desired extent a mop of any size can be readily inserted therebetween, and there is no difificulty in getting the mop in between the rollers. Similarly, the amount of pressure on the mop can be regulated as desired. This remedies a defect incident to similar wringers hitherto constructedthat is, a difficulty in starting and drawing a thick mop between the rollers.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a pail, of a stationary roller and a yielding roller supported therein, and threaded adjusting-rods connected to the axle of the yielding roller and extending through the wall of the pail and provided with nuts on the outside thereof.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN A. WHITE.
