Application led October 4,1920. Serial No. 414,562.
towhich it appertains to make anduse the y same.
This inventionl relates to new and useful improvements in caskets and has for its primary object the provision of a device of the above stated character which is constructed of aluminum so it will be extremely lightin weight, rust and germ proof and which will be sanitary and aid inpreserving the body contained therein by excluding vermin.
and air.`
Another object of this invention is the provision of a casket of the above stated char? acter which will be simple, durable, and efiicient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
`With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more kfully describedv and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a side elevation of a casket constructed in accordance with my invention,
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the. same,
Figure 3 is a sectional View illustrating the means of securing the lining` within the body of the casket, l
Figure i is a plan view illustrating a glass inner cover;
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral l indicates a body of a. casket includingva bottom wall 2, side walls 3 and end wallst. The side walls 3 are of a comparatively' short length and are connected by diagonally extending walls 5 so as to render the body of an artistic configuration and one that will comfortably receive a human body. The side, end and diagonal walls have formed on their upper edges con nected and outwardly extending flanges 6 adapted to support a cover 7 which in outline is of a corresponding shape to the body and is detachably secured to the flanges 6 by fasteners or screws' `8. The cover 7 is adapted to tightly seat upon the ianges 6 so as to establish an air-tight connection between lthe body and the'cover.V The body and cover are constructed from aluminum so thattlie device will be extremely light in weight, germ and rust-proof and by excluding air, the body contained in the casket will be preservedto a great extent vand also verl min will be excluded from the interior of the casket. The walls of the body l have formed therein "an inwardly directed flange 9 disposed in a plane slightly below the flanges 6 and is provided with a series of perforations l0 so that the lining 1l placed within the body lrmay be sewed or otherwise secured to said flange. The-side walls 3 are provided with handles l2 so that the casket can be conveniently handled or carried. Y
If desired, a glass cover 13 of a shape 'corresponding to the outlines of thebody l` mayvr be used and placed upon the ange 9 so that the human body within the casket may be viewedv when the cover 7 is removed, still preventing germs from escaping from the casket. 1
Vhile I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of'my invention, itwill be understood that minor changes in construction, combination, and arrangement of f parts may be made without departing from' scope of the invention as p the spirit and claimed. y y
Having thus described vmy invention what I claim is A casket having the container section provided .with an interior flange integral therewith, va lining, said flange being perforated to facilitate passage of stitching there? throughto secure the lining thereto, a onepiece transparent panel adapted to rest onA said flange and stitching prevented from lateral displacement by Vthe surrounding wall of the sect-ion, said flange being located below the upper edge of said section a dis- I tance substantially equal to the vthickness of the panel, an outwardly directed flange at p the upper edge of the section and substantially in the same horizontal plane with the panel to reinforce the sections and serve as a seat for the cover, and acoverY section disposed'out of engagement With said panel and attachable to said seat having its inner Wall extending inwardly and upwardly over the panel.
