IMPROV EMENT IN CARPENTERS GAGES.

h. This clamp is placed over the gage-head in the notches '5. Then the head, with the grappling-clamp, is placed on the bar from one end. The prongs 70 take bearing on the under side of the bar-plate, when the gage will be complete and ready for use as a mortise-gage; or, by removing the head, the gage slide-bar 0 may be turned over, the other edge up, the thumbpiece m placed into the orifice n. Thus the upper edge will be nearly flush with the face of the gage-bar, to be used as a common gage. By loosening the screw 0 the tooth (2 may be removed, replaced, adjusted, and again firmly secured in the desired position by turning up the screw 6, and the head f adjusted and secured in its desired position by the screw it and clamp g. Thus I am enabled to produce a good, cheap, and durable gage.

I am aware of Patent N 0. 141,014, bearing date July 22, 1873, and hereby disclaim anything shown therein.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv The combination of the T-shaped bar a, grooved head f, grappling-clamp g, and slide gage-bar c, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
