Description

Sam. 2-, 1924. 1,507,154
A. BONNIOL EAR ATTACHMENT Filed Dec; 28, 1922 Patented Sept. 2, 1924.
ADOLPHE BONNIOL, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
EAR ATTACHMENT.
Application filed December 28, 1922.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ADOLPHE BoNNIoL, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ear Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to ear attachments W at the pierceless type.
The essential objects of my invention are to accommodate the structure for use upon ears of differing thickness; to insure nice adjustment and security against accidental -zlisengagement from the ear; and the attainment of these results in an inexpensive and easily operable structure. To the above ends essentially my invention consists in such parts and in such combinations of parts as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my attach- A ment,
Figure 2, a plan of the same locked at its outward limit of extension,
Figure 3, a plan of the same unlocked at its inward limit of extension,
Figure 4, a section on line M of Figure and Figure 5, a perspective View of the operating member.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the views.
In the form of my invention herein illus trated 7 is the bow carrying on one end the head 8, which in this case comprises a cup 9 and an ornament 10. The other end of the bow is fastened to a sleeve 12 provided upon its upper portion with a longitudinally disposed slot 13 extending laterally from which at one side are recesses or cavities 14 forming a plurality of teeth 15, in this instance two. The recesses and teeth are prefcrably laterally tapering. Slidably mount- Serial is free to slide in the slot 13 any desired distance. When, in applying the attachment to the ear lobe, ter, the rod which causes the member 19 engages the lat- 17 is given a fractional turn the lug 20 to enter the nearest cavity 14 where it is held against lateral movement.
Thus the rod 17 is maintained against longitudinal movement and a consequent release from the ear lobe.
To re lease the attachment the order of movements is reversed.
I claim:- 1. In an e ar attachment of the character described, a bow, a head upon one end of the bow, a sleeve on the other end of the bow in alignment with the head provided with a longitudinal slot and with a plurality of spaced cavities opening into the slot at an angle thereto, a smooth operating rod longitudinally slidable and rotatable in the sleeve and a lateral lug on the rod extended beyond the periphery of the rod and registerable by rotation only in the slots and cavities.
2. As an improved article of manufacture, an ear attachment comprising a bow having a head at one end, a sleeve fastened to the other end of tudinally-dis said bow and having a longiposed slot with laterally-extended recesses forming a plurality of teeth,
a clamping rod slidably and rotatably mounted in end an operating head, and a bearing at the said sleeve and having at one other end, and a lateral lug on said rod intermediate its ends and disposed between the end walls of said slot to engage in said 8 teeth.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
ADOLPHE BONNIOL.
