Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,705, dated May 12, 18.74; application filed January 16, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN OTT, of the city of Indianapolis, county of Marion, State of Indiana, have invented an Improvement in Lounges, oi' which the following is a specification The nature and object of the invention will be fully understood from the following general description and the annexed drawings.
Figure l of the accompanying drawings is a top view of the lounge7 opened so as to form a bed. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same, folded up so as to form a lounge.

Around the bar j" pass the helical springs c and bf, which, resting against d with one end and a with the other, will, by their elasticity, cause the part of a farthest away from the bar f to spring up when free. The frames a a a a and d d d d, the springs b and c c, and the bar f are similarly arranged. The head g of the lounge serves a double purpose, being for a head when it is folded up, as shown in section in Fig. 2, and for a foot when spread out. This head-piece g is hinged to the main lounge at g', and fastened by a convenient cord to the frame a.
When the lounge is opened, the frame a, by
reason of the elasticity oi' the springs b and e, draws g up to the lounge-frame, so that it will be in theproper position for a foot under the head end; but when the lounge is folded up, the head-board i, pressing up Vthe head-piece y, draws up a, so as to allow the head-piece g to rest properly on t'.
When the lounge is opened, the vtwo frames a and a spring up at the back, by reason of the elasticity of the springs b and e and b and c', to form, as it were, a pillow; but when the lounge is shut up, a and a', pressing together, close down, so as to allow the lounge to shut snugly up.
This lounge, otherwise than as described, is upholstered and used as any ordinary lounge.
I elaim- 1. The combination ofthe folding frame, its yielding head-rest and hinged bolster, iiexibly connected together', and xed head-board t', on the main frame of the lounge, substantially as specied.
2. The combination of the main frame, provided with a yielding head -rest and a fixed head-board, i, and the folding frame, provided with the connected yielding head rest and hinged bolster, substantially as specified.
