To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, ALBERT H. HALL and OOFRAN I.HALL, of Suisun City, Solano county, State of California, have invented an Improved Gan-Opener and we do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawings are sufficient to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use our saidinvention or improvement without further invention or experiment.

Our invention relates to that class of canopeners in which a rotary cutter is employed to traverse about a central pivot or fulcrum in order to cut out the top of a can.

Heretofore the cutter in this class of canopeners has been either permanent or secured in a sliding frame, which could be adjusted to or from the fulcrum point or pivot in order to enlarge or diminish the size of the hole to be out.

A Our improvement consists in constructing the rotary cutter with a wide hub. and in placing it loosely upon the stem or rod of the tool, so that it will slide easily back and forth, as desired. v

In order to more fully explain our invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is aperspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of part of the shank and cutter.

A is the handle, and B the shank or rod, which is provided with a pivot-point, c, at its outer extremity in the usual way. The circular or revolving knife d is provided with a wide hub, c. This knife or cutter has a hole through its center large enough to permit it to be slipped on over the rod B. The outer extremity of the rod B, near the pivot-point, we then flatten, so that the circular knife cannot slip'off. The knife or cutter is sharpened by beveling the edge opposite the pivot-point, in the usual manner of sharpening knives or blades. The revolving knife or cutter being loose upon the shank, can be easily adjusted to the necessary point to cut a hole of the desired diameter. The knife or cutter will be kept in place while moving around the pivotpoint by the bevel of its sharpened edge and the width of hub on the opposite side, the two tending to twist the knife or cutter, and thus compel it to remain in one position until the piece or top is cut out.

By this means we provide a cheap, simple, and convenient can-opener, which will open tin or other cans with great facility.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
