Description
IUD. uumrualuuwa,
COATING 0R PLASTiC SUBSTITUTED FOR MISSING COPY-2 Examiner LLOYD S. GIBSON, OF JAMESTOYVX, NEV YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN FIRE-PROOF PAINTS.
S ecification forming part of Letters Patent- No. 150,562, dated May 5, 1874; ap lication filed April 13, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LLovD S. Glnsox, of Jamestown, Chautauqua county, "Sew York, have invented a Composition for Fire-Proof Paint; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and correct description of the same.
The object of my invention is to produce a composition for fire-proof paint for the protection, as well as preservation, of roofs and outsides of buildings and other objects which are exposed to fire and the other elements. My invention consists in compounding alum su ar of lead, and silicate ofsodium,@ihcateot potassium, both, with or without dry wlnte 21110 other ooloriifiatter, with wluc 1t wil unite or re purpose of forming a non-combustible or fireproof paint, according to the following formula:
Dissolve equal amounts of aluurandsugar of leadin water, as much of each as the waten will dissolve; then mix equal amounts of the solutions together in a separate vessel. After precipitation, mix the clear liquid with hot sigeate of sodium in the proportion of about three parts of the aforesaid liquid, to four parts of the silicate of sodium. Afterward add colorin matter, to suit, to the consistency of paint, Then it is ready to be applied in the manner of applying paint.
Instead of using silicate of sodium silicate gflyptassipm may be used, and it has been ound advantageous to mix them.
1 do not confine myself to t-lie'arbitrary proportions herein given, as they may be varied to meet various conditions without departing from the substance of my invention; but
What- I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The composition fireproof paint consisting of alum, sugar of lead, and a silicate, compounded substantially as herein described.
The above specification of my said invention signed and witnessed at Jamestown this 31st day of March, A. l). 1874.
LLOYD S. GIBSON.
