- I E. w. BURKE BANANA RACK Filed Feb. 26 1923 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented Aug. 19, 1924.
EDGAR w. BURKE, or Mon Uranium KANSASQ BANANA RACK.
Application filed February 26, 1923. Serial 1T0. 621,218.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it-known that I, EDGAR W. BURKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Monument, in the county of Logan and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Banana Racks,
of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in banana racks, the primary object thereof residing in the provision of such a rack 'that may be expeditiously attached to a desirable support the said rack adapted for swinging movement thereon for permitting of the bananas to be easily secured to the rack, after which the same may be swung forwardly to its proper supporting. position.
A further object of my invention is the provision of such a rack that is comparat-ively simple of construction, and of such a nature as to be readily secured to a desirable support.
With the above and other objects in view as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the combina tion and arrangement of parts hereinafter shown and described.
In the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference inclicate similarparts in the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational View of my improved rack, the same being shown in position upon a store counter.
Figure 2 is a rear elevational view there of Figure 3 is a sectional view taken upon.
the line 33 of Figure 2, and
Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the bracket members employed in conjunction with my invention.
Referring to the drawings in detail, A indicates a conventional form of counter, used in grocery stores, and the like. Upon the top of'this counter and preferably 3dr.
jacent one end thereof are a pair of spaced brackets 5, the same being rigidly secured to the counter and comprising bottom walls 6 and vertical side walls 7, the edges of these side walls being preferably inclined as more clearly shown in Figure 4.
My rack per se, includes a pair of vertically and forwardly extending legs 8, which are preferably in the form .of pipe sections, the top ends thereof being slightly inwardly, as more clearly shown in Figure 2, for adding strength to these legs. The lower ends of these legs 8 are pivotally secured between the side walls 7 of the said bracketsmthrough the instrumentality of removable pivot pins 9, andconnected to ion.
said ends of the legs 8, are forwardly. exi tendin brace arms 10, consistin also of I I e pipe sections, and oined at their front ends by a connecting pipe 11. Formed upon the front ends of they said arms 10 are verti cally extending pipe sections l2, the upper ends thereofbeingwelded or brazed to the said pipes constituting the legs 8.
Within the front ends of the pipe members constituting said legs 8 are the ends of a hanger 13, these ends being brazed, vwelded or otherwise rigidly secured within the said ends. This hanger. v13 is preferably of the shape as shown, the front end thereof being formed with a book 14:, to which is secured one end of a banana stalk B, and in view of the above description, it will be at once appreciated that in positioning a stalk of bananas upon my rack, the same is swung rearwardly off of the counter A, at which time, the banana stalk may be attached to the hook 14' of the hanger 13, after which the rack is forcibly swung forwardly upon i its pivots 9 into a position clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2, the said arms .10 as wellas the vertical pipe sections 12 assisting in maintaining the said rack in such a position,
In view of the above description, it is believed that theadvantages and operation of a rack of this character will be readily appreciatel by those skilled in the art, and although I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it 'is' nevertheless to beunderstood that minor changes may be made therein, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I clainras new, and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is: a
A rack comprising bracket'members havmg plane base surfaces adapted to be mount 7 portions adapted to engage the base surportions of the legs and coming together faces of the brackets and retain the legs at apoint between the legs and provided at acute angles with relation to the planes With'a hook at their point of connection 10 of the base surfaces of the brackets, brace with each other.
portions connecting the ends of the arms In testimony whereof I affix my signawith the intermediate portions of the legs, ture. converging hangers carried at the upper EDGAR W. BURKE.
