To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, PETER J. CHRIs'rMAN, J r., a citizen of the United States, and resident of Green Bay, in the county of Brown and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper Packages; and. I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

This invention pertains to improvements in paper packages, and more particularly to a package comprising a plurality of single, folded, or double sheets, each unit be ing provided with a folded tab adapted to resent itself through a delivery opening in the dispensing container when the preceding unit is removed from the package.

The type of package comprising the present invention is designed primarily for use in connection with toilet paper, paper napkins, p-aper toweling, and the like, and is to be used in a dispensing container provided with a delivery opening in its front face through which a single unit may be withdrawn at a time.

The primary object of the present invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive, and

compact package of the foregoing character.

in which the operation of interfolding adj acent units is eliminated and dispensing of the same may be accomplished in a simple and inexpensive type of container or cabinet.

A more specific object resides in the provision of a paper package comprising a plurality of units of rectangular shape, each h avin one of their corresponding corners folde in the same direction on a diagonal line intermediate the corner and center of the unit.

With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinafter described and more particularly defined by the appended claims, it being understood that such changes in the precise embodiment of the herein disclosed invention may be made as come within the scope of the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate several forms of the invention, Figure 1 is an elevational view of a single sheet, comprising one of the units, before folding.

Figure 2 is a similar view illustrating the unit folded in accordance with the present invention.

Figure 3 is an edge view of the folded sheet illustrated in Fi ure 2.

Figure 4 is a modi cation and illustrates it blank adapted to be folded on a medial Figure 5 illustrates that form shown in Figure 4 after it has been folded.

Figure 13 is a transverse section through the dispenser containing a package of paper formed according to the present invention.

As set forth in the preceding paragraphs, the present invention consists primarily in providing a package of paper composed of a plurality of units provided with a tab to facilitate selective removal from a dispensing container and eliminating interfolding of the adjacent units, thereby materially decreasing the cost of manufacture.

In the various modifications illustrated in the drawings, it will be noted that the completed units which comprise the package are identical, with the exception of the number of leaves.

In that form illustrated in Figures 1, 2, and 3, the unit a is composed of a single sheet 1 provided with a removal tab 2, which is formed by folding one of the corners of the sheet on a diagonal line 3, as indicated in Figure 1. As illustrated in Figure 13, the completed package consists of a plurality of so formed units and it is to be noted that the tabs 2 are all folded in the same direction upon corresponding corners of each of the units.

For the purpose of dispensing, the entire package is placed within a container 4 constructed of any suitable material and provided in its front face with a delivery opening 5, through which projects the tab 2 of the first unit. As illustrated in Figure 13, the tendency of the tab 2 is to project slightly forward, thus bringing it through the delivery opening and facilitating gripping of the same, for the purpose of withdrawingthe sheet or unit a.

Where so desired, the dispensing container 4 may be constructed as a permanent fixture, with provision for renewing the package of paper contained therein, while on the other hand, in some instances it may be desired to construct the dispenser of cardboard, or other inexpensive material, in which case it not only serves as a dispenser, but also the original container in which the package is furnished.

It is further obvious that where it is desired to remove two or more sheets at a time, the unit a, illustrated in Figures 1, 2,

and 3, may be composed of two or more sheets in which the tab 2 is formed at one olperation, or in some, instances that form i ustrated in Figures 4, 5, 6, and 7 may be employed where a double sheet is used, the same being formed by folding the sheet 6 on a median or transverse line 7 and thereafter folding the corner on the diagonal line 3 to form the removal tab 2.

In the case of paper napkins or toweling, it is customary and desirable to sup ly the same in compact form, which general y consists of a quarterly fold that results in a rectangular unit, the sides of which are of approximately equal dimensions. In forming the napkin 9 into a unit of desirable size, the same is folded twice on the center lines 10 and ll respectively, as indicated in Figures 9 and 10, and thereafter the corner is folded back on the line 3 to form -the completed unit illustrated in Figures 11 and 12, which is composed of a book having four leaves.

While I have shown and described various ways in which the individual units, comprising the completed package, may be formed, it will be readily seen that the principle or method of forming the completed package is in no way varied, in that each form is provided with a removal tab 2 provided by folding one of the corners of the unit on a diagonal line intermediate the corner and center of the unit. In assembling the units, all of the tabs extend in the same direction. Thus, as each unit is withdrawn from the dispenser 4, the tab of the following unit presents itself through the delivery open- IVhile the delivery opening 5, provided in the faoe of the container 4, is of considerably smaller dimensions than the units com prising the packa e, no difiiculty is encountered in withdrawing the latter through the opening, due to the fact that the units are formed from a comparatively light stock of paper.

From the foregoing it will be seen that a very simple and inexpensive form of packa e has been provided, which may be emp 0 ed in connection with various articles, suc as toilet paper, paper toweling, napkins, and the like, and which provides a package of maximum compactness which may be dispensed in an exceedingly simple and inexpensive type of dispenser or ori inal container, and by means of the ta s, gripping of only one unit at a time is facilitated, thus eliminating waste. Attention is also directed to the fact that the tab 2 in practice is formed by turning over or folding a very small portion of the units, thus eliminating creases and disfigurement of the unit.

I claim:

A package of paper composed of a plurality of rectangularly shaped units, each comprising a sheet folded in two directions to form a book of four leaves, said units having corresponding corners folded in the same directions on a diagonal line intermediate said corners and the center of said units.
