HENRY H. SMITH, OF SMITHBOROUGH, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED STOCK-FEED BOILERS AND TRQUGHS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,490, dated May 5, 1874; application filed March 21, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY H. SMITH, of Smithborough, in the county of Bond and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Cooking- Boiler and Feed-Trough, of which the followin g is a specification:
The advantage of feeding cooked food to hogs and other live stock is well known to all stock-raisers, and my object in this invention is to provide means for not only cooking the food, but feeding it to the stock While it is in a warm state; and it consists of a combined boiler and feeding trough or troughs, hereinafter more fully set forth and described.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 represents a top or plan view. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of Fig. 1, taken on the line w as. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-section of Fig. 1, taken on the line 1 y.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts. 1
A is a box of oblong form, mainly made of wood, but having a metallic bottom, which is the top sheet of a furnace underneath. B is the furnace. O is the smoke-flue. I) is the cover to the box A or boiler. To one or both sides of this boiler or cooking-tank I attach a trough, E.
In this example of my invention I attach a trough each side of the boiler. These troughs communicate with the boiler by means of apertures F, which are closed by valves Gr.
There may be one or more apertures from the boiler to each trough, and the valves or covers may be hinged, as indicated in Fig. 2, or
slide or open and close on a pivotpin, as seen in Fig. 1. The apertures F are long slots at the bottom of the troughs, so arrangedthat the cooked meal or food, which is in a semifluid state, may flow from the boiler into the troughs, and thus come within reach of the stock. By this improvement the food is cooked and placed within reach of the stock without hard labor.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 7 HENRY E. SMITH.
Witnesses I U. N. SMITH, ANDREW OULVER.
