Application led October 22, 1921. Serial No. 509,684.
To all whom 'it may concer/n.'
Be it known that I, JOHN C. MURRAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lakewood, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Drawing Pads, of which the following is a full, clear, Aand exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to pads and more particularly to pads which are designed with special reference to the reproduction of drawings by means of a pantograph. The general object of the invention is to provide a pad of this character which will enable pantographic enlargements to be made in a particularly convenient manner' and which is especially adapted for this purpose. I accomplish the foregoing object in and through the construction shown in the drawing, which represents a perspective view of a pad constructed in accordance with my invention and having a pantograph applied thereto, one side being broken away.
The pad comprises the base 1, preferably of heavy carboard. This base supports a plurality of sheets 2, preferably of drawing paper. These sheets are united at their edges into a pad in any convenient manner, as by means of a paper binding 3. Adjacent to one end thereof, which for convenience of description will be referred to as the upper end, each sheet is provided with a severing line 4 adapting it to be torn at such line, leaving a stub 5. In addition, each leaf is provided with a severing line 6 parallel with the severing line 4, enabling the lower part of the sheet, on which the picture is made, to be conveniently removed from the upper part for the purpose of preserving the drawing.
In the central portion of the space between the two lines 4 and 6, a picture 7 may be pasted or printed upon each sheet. Mounted in the assembly of the stubs 5 at the upper end of the tablet are eyelets 8, which are adapted to receive the studs 9 of a yoke (preferably of heavy wire), to the closed end 10 of which a pantograph, indicated generally at 11, is pivoted. This pantograph carries a stylus 12, which is adapted to follow the picture 7 and is provided with a clamp 13 adapted to receive and retain a pencil or crayon 14.
With the pad constructed and arranged as described, the picture printed or pasted upon the central portion of each sheet, between the lines 4 Vand 6, may be reproduced and enlarged upon the portion of the sheet below such space. The sheet may then be removed by tearing along the severing line 4, leaving the stub 5, the stub assembly serving to support the pantograph as the sheets are removed. The part of the sheet containing the reproduction and enlargement may be removed along the line 6 and preserved. If desired, the part of the sheet between the line 6 and the bottom of the sheet may be removed, leaving the rest of the sheet, and the picture 7k may then be reproduced upon the next lower sheet of the pad.
By reason of my invention herein, I am able to produce a pad which is especially designed for use with a pantograph and in combination therewith; and to secure this result in an eflicient and economical manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A pad comprising a plurality of sheets each having a stub end connected thereto by a severing line and each having a severing line spaced from the first mentioned severing line and a picture interposed between said lines, and means carried by the stub end of the pad for supporting a pantograph."
2. The combination, with a pad comprising a plurality of sheets, each having a stub connected thereto by a severing line, a picture on the opposite side of said line from said stub, and eyelets extending through the stub ends of said sheets, of a pantograph support comprising a yoke having a pair of studs mounted in said eyelets.
3. A pad of the character described comprising a plurality of sheets each having a stub portion at one end thereof united to the body of the pad by a severing line, a picture applied to each sheet adjacent to the severing line, and means carried by and extending through the stubs of the sheets which comprise the pad for supporting a pantograph.
4. The combination with a pad comprisinga plurality of sheets each having a stub end, of a pantograph support carried by the stub ends of said sheets, said support comprising a member projecting into the stubs of such pad.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto alix my signature.
JOHN C. MURRAY.
