WILBERT STEVENS IBIRDSALL, OF I BIASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TQj' AMERICAN SALES BOOK COMPANY, LIMITED, OF TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA, A.
. CORPORATION OF CANADA.
mnmronnme SALES BOOK.
Application filed. November 22, 1923. Serial No. 676,249..
This invention relates to record books and with respect to its more specific features to quadruplicate record books.
An object of this invention is to provide a book of the class described adapted to make a plurality of records with a minmum of annoyance in arrangement of the leaves for writing and with a maximum of convenience in their operation.
A further object is to provide a book having a plurality of record sheets adapted to be inscribed at a single writing such that all or any desired number of said sheets may be detached from the book and handled as a unit before complete severance from each other.
Other objects of the invention will in part be obvious and will in part be pointed out.
' and objects of the invention reference should I be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, which is a perspective view of a book embodying the invention.
The numeral 1 indicates a plurality of sheets bound together as at 2 to formthe pad or book. Each of'these sheets 1 supports, at
' the end 3, remote from the binding 2, other leaves 4, 5, and 6, to form a set.-
In the handling of records from record books it is frequently convenient that the record sheets-torn from the book may pass through certain departments attached together before being finally severed to be distributed to their ultimate destinations and to this end the sheets 4, and 6 are so associated that they may be removed from the sheet 1 as a. unit. As illustrated a single sheet of opaque paper is folded to form-two sheets, as for example, 4 and 6, which are pasted or otherwise conveniently attached to the end 3 of the sheet 1 at the fold of the folded sheet. Attached to one of the leaves thus formed, as for ex ample the leaf 4, is an auxiliary leaf 5, which is preferably of translucent material. It may conveniently be pasted flat on the unclerface of the sheet 4 as illustrated at 7 whereby there will be small tendency of the sheets 4, 5 and 6 to open up when removed from the book while they are being handled as a unit. I
In the form illustrated carb n sheets 8 and 9 may be bound Within the pad in position to overlie the sheets 1 and 6 respectively and in the form illustrated the sheet 9 will preferably be of double faced carbon in order that it may transfer this record to the underside of the translucent sheet 5. It will be obvious, however, that the translucent sheet may be attached to underlie the sheet 6 in which case the carbon 8, rather than the carbon 9, should be double faced.
In the operation of this book the sheets 4, 5 and 6 of the set to be used, are folded outwardly and the carbon sheet 8 superposed upon the bound sheet 1, whereupon the sheet 6 is placed upon the carbon sheet in turn to be covered by the carbon sheet 9. The sheets 1 and 5 may then be folded back over the sheet 9 as a unit and the desired record in scribed thereon. This record by the carbon sheets will be transferred to the duplicate, triplicate and quadruplicate sheets in a manner which will be readily understood.
The sheets 4, 5 and 6 may now be freed from the carbons and removed from the book as a unit by tearing the sheet 1 on a suitable weakened portion, as the weakened line 12. Suitable weakened portions may also be provided for separating the sheets from each other when so desired and for separating different portions of any individual sheet.
A suitable cover or holder 10 may be provided if desired.
Since certain changes may be made in the above product and different embodiments of the invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
It is also to be understood that the following claims are intended to cover all of the generic and s ecific features of the invention to form an ori inal and triplicate record, a translucent lea attached to one end of said sheet to underlie said original record leaf a quadruplicate record leaf attached to said sheet at the fold, said quadruplicate leaves of the several sets extendingbeyond the other leaves, and being attached together to form the book, and single faced and double faced carbon leaves bound in said book in position to be placed respectively between said third and fourth and said second and third sheets.
2. A quadruplicate record book comprising, in combination, a plurality of sets of leaves bound together to form a pad, each set including a sheet folded to form two record leaves and attached to the bound leaf at the fold, saidbound leaf of each set having a weakened portion adjacent to the attachment whereby the folded sheet may be detached from the bound leaf as a unit, each of said sets including a translucent leaf attached to one end of the folded sheet thereof and adapt-' ed to underlie one of the folded leaves of the same set, and carbon leaves adapted to be interposed between said leaves.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
WILBERT STEVENS BIRDSALL.
