Be it known that I, Or'ro W. L. Buss, a citizen of the United States, resident of Minneapolis, county of Hennepin, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Masons Tools, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and improved tool adapted for use in connection 1 with the installation of door, window, or other frames in buildings. The present common practice is to position such a frame in an opening in a wall of a building and, while the frame is held in the desired position, to fill in the space between the wall and the frame with a cementitious substance, which, upon hardening or setting, will securely hold the frame in position.
' This novel invention provides a device which is adaptedto act as a form during the emplacement of the frame and its perma nent setting in position.
The object therefore of the invention is to provide an improved masons tool.
Other objects of the invention will more fully appear from the following description and the accompanying drawings and will be pointed out in the annexed claims.
In the drawings, there has been disclosed 39 a structure designed to carry out the ob jects of the invention, but it is to be understood that the invention is not confined to the exact features shown as various changes may be made within the scope of the claims which follow.

For purpose of disclosure, this selected embodiment of the invention is shown in conjunction with a window frame which also is of novel construction but forms the subject-matter of a co-pending application of the inventor hereof, Serial No. 677,040, filed November 26, 1923, and therefore no claim is made herein to the particular con struction of the window frame. This frame is substantially H-shaped in cross section Serial No. 680,391.
and is ada oted as it is common to be ositioned within the wall of a building and to be substantially surrounded by a cementitious substance such as the concrete shown in the cross-sectional view in Figure 3. In the installation of window frames, it is usual to embed a portion of the outer side of the frame members within the masonry or concrete. This novel tool is adapted to be positioned about a frame member and the concrete may be poured into the spaces it is desired to fill while this tool functions as a form.
The preferred form of this novel tool is made-of relatively stiff sheet metal andv is shaped to fit substantially about three sides of a fume member. For this purpose, it is provided with a. median longitudinal recess (3 which is preferably less in depth than the width of the f zine member so that, as is shown in Figures 1 and 3, a portion of the frame member extends outwardly beyond this'recess. The material of the tool is also shaped to provide the lateral and longitudinally extending wings T and 8 which oppositely project, preferably in alinement, from the sides of the recess 6.
lVhen the tool is positioned in its operativc position, the plane of the surfaces of the wings 7 and 8 intersects a portion of the frame member. Thus, when the concrete is placed against the outer face of the wings and frame member, the projecting portion or portions of the frame member will be substantially surrounded by the concrete so that the frame member will be securely held in the desired position when the concrete has set.
Preferably, means are provided for locki ing this tool in its operative position. A convenient locking means is provided by an abutment 9 here shown as formed of sheet metal secured to one side of the frame member 11 and adapted to project through a slot 12 cut through the metal of the tool at the angle formed by one side of the recess 6 and the wing 8. A latch 13 is pivotally mounted on the wing 8 and is adapted to be swung from the inoperative dotted line position shown in Figure 2 to its locking fullline position shown in the same figure or shown in section in Figure 3. For convenience of manual operation a tab 14 may be terminally oflset. When the latch is moved to locking position, it effectually covers that 27G RUSS METAL VJINDOW portion of the slot 12 in the Wing 8 and prevents separation of the tool from the frame member. The abutment is preferably made in the form shown in order that it subsequently may be employed for the purpose of hanging screens.
A great advantage resides in this novel type of toolin that it may be used repeatedly. After the concrete is set, this tool may be mounted or removed by turning the latch 13 so that, upon inwardly pulling the tool, the abutment 9 will pass through the slot 12 and the tool may be removed for a repeated similar use.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
1. A masons tool formed of relatively stiff she'et material shaped to fit Substantial may be embedded.

A masons tool having a recess to receive a frame member and providing surfaces extending from each side of the recess to act as a form for emplacement of the frame member in masonry whereby a predetermined portion of the frame member may be embedded, and means to secure the tool to the frame member in operative position.
