Description

F; H. RASCHER BAG TIER Filed March 16. 1923 atenteol July 22, 1924.
onrrso STATES inexact PATENT oFFicE. I
BAG TIER.
Application filed. March 16, 1923.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK H. RAS- CHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Arlington Heights, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag Tiers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in bag tying devices, particularly adapted for use in mills and fields for tying up grain.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a bag tier formed of a single piece of wire and so constructed as to form the ends of the wire with a hook and eye so that same may be readily secured together for holding a bag in a closed position.
A further object of my invention is to provide a bag tier of the character indicated,
having finger grips for moving the hook and eye into and out of engagement with each other.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a bag tier which can be used a large number of times, thus dispensing with the waste and loss as is the case when using rope or twine for tying the mouth of the ba which can only be used once.
And a still further object of my invention is to provide a bag tier, which is simple in construction, durable, efiicient for the purpose intended, and one that can be manufactured and sold in large quantities at a relatively small rice.
5 These an like objects of the invention will be better understood as the description follows and as is specifically pointed out in the a pended claim.'
Re erring to the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification and which clearly shows the construction and operation of my improved bag tier,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bag tier constructed in accordance with my in- 4 vention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of same.
Figure 3 is an enlarged perspective view of one end section, showing the eye formed therein.
Figure 4 is an enlarged perspective view of the opposite end, showing the hook formed therein for engagement with the eye, and
Flgure 5 1s an enlarged section taken on Serial No. 625,668.
line 5-5 of Figure 2, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring to the accompanying drawing in detail, like characters will be used to designate like parts in the different views.
In the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a sack of an capacity which is provided with the usua open end 2.
My improved bag tier comprises a single strand of wire as designated by the numeral 3, in one end of which is formed anv eye 4, after which the wire is given one complete turn as at 5 around the strand 3 and then passed downwardly as at 6, after which the wire passes upwardly as at 7 to form a finger grip adjacent the rear end of the eye l.
The opposite end of the wire 3 is formed with a hook 8 and is doubly reinforced by bending the wire back upon itself as at 9 until same reaches a point as at 10 after which the wire is given one complete turn as above described to form loops 11 and 12 on opposite sides of the strand 3, so as to form a finger grip at the rear end of the hook 8.
When it is'desired to secure or close the mouth of the bag 1, the finger pieces formed by the loops 6, 7 11, and 12 are moved to wards each other, which permits the eye 4: toengage the hook 8. When opening the mouth of the bag, the same operation is followed, thus permitting the eye 4 to become disengaged from the hook 8.
In view of the foregoing description of my invention taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is thought that any further explanation as to the construction, operation, and objects of this invention is unnecessary.
While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, I realize that various minor changes may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed, and therefore, I do not wish to limit myself to the exact details of construction shown, nor to the combination and arrangement of parts.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: i
A bag tier comprising a single strand of Wire having, an eye formed at one end thereof, said wire being given a complete turn at this point around the strand and passed ger grip ad acent t downwardly and uplwardly to provide a fin-' e rear end of the eye, a
= turn at this point to provide loops onopposite sides thereof Which act in the capacity of a finger grip at the rear end of the first mentioned hook.
In testimony whereof, I have affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
FREDERICK RASCHER.
Witnesses W'M. J. HAUSAM, E. A. WILSHEK.
