UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. VYGANT, OF HAOKENSAOK, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHILDRENS CARRIAGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,2] 5, dated April 28. 1874; application filed May 31, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. WYGANT, of
Hackensack, in the county of Bergen and of childrens carriages, as hereinafter described,
and pointed out in the claims.
Figure l is a side elevation of my improved childs carriage, and Fi g. 2 is a plan view.
A represents the C-spring, which is attached at one end to the front axle B,- extends back over the hind axle l), to which it is also attached, and then springs by a large curve around the rear end of the body, up over it, and forward as far as the middle, or thereabout, so that the body may be suspended from it by the cross-bar E also, so that the frame for the canopy may also be supported by it. This frame consists of the cross-bar Gr, the rods H, and rod I. The bars are arranged so as to slide forward and backward in the spring A. They are connected at the ends by the rods H, and the rod I, which is somewhat in. the form of a carriage-bow, is connected to the ends of the front cross-bar G, so as to swing forward or backward to extend or contract the top. This is also done by shifting the frame forward or backward on the springs. When the bow I is shifted forward to extend the shade, it
falls in front of the ledge J at the front end of the springs A, and holds the frame in the forward position. When it is released from said ledge, the frame will slide back by gravity. K is the joint in the front of the carriage-body, by which the part M is turned up to utilize the dash L for a table for the childs toys. The dash is hinged to part L, and provided with a brace, N, to support it, and the part M has hooks V to hold it up.
When folded down in the ordinary position, the brace N may be hooked up at its free end in a hook or staple 011 the side of the dash.
The carriage-body is supported at the front with the springs l?.
Having thus described inyinvention, I claiin as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The sliding and swinging frame- G H I, combined with a spring, A, projecting over the body of a childs carriage, as and for the purpose described.
2. The dash L, piece M, and brace N, co1n bined with the body of carriage, so that the part L may be lnade to serve both as a dash and a table, as set lforth.
JOHN HENRY WYGANT. Witnesses:
Riot-IARD P. PAULrsoN, HENRY B. ZABRIsK'IE.
