To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ED\VARD A. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at F ortHWorth, in the county of Tarrant and State of Texas,have invented new and useful Improvements in Ventilators, of which the following is a specification.
My'invention relates to ventilators and more particularly to such as are especially fitted'for use in the windows of railway cars although capable of other adaptations. An important object of the invention is to provide an adjustable ventilator of this" kind which may be conveniently carried in a traveling bag and readily applied or re-- moved from a window.
- A further object of theinvention is the provision, in connection with a device of the character set forth, of a novel and improved means for securing the device in posit-ion without marring or damaging any portion of the window.
The invention also has for its object'to furnish :a ventilator of the kind stated which is very simple in construction, highly efficient in use and which may be cheaply manufactured.
The above and other objects are attained by means of certain novel features of construction and arrangement of the various parts as will be more fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the appended claims.
In order to obtain a better understanding of the invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein the preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed and in which similar reference characters have been used to designate like parts throughout the several views.

and sill, respectively, of ,a window of a railway coach between which is adjustably positioned a ventilator in the form of a plate or shield 8. This plate may be of aluminum, cardboard or any other suitable material which may be found adaptable. A newspaper or magazine can be used if desired, my invention residing particularly in the pair of clamps for engaging the shield and window sash rail for holding the device in position. v The clamping means comprises a pair of substantially U-shaped clamps 9 and 10 of sheet metal which are pivotally connected "at their closed back portions intermediate their endsby means of a bolt and nut 11 and 11%. Theupper clip 9 is adapted to engage. and receive the bottom portion of the lower sash rail 6, theinner' arm of said clip being inwardly curled to form a finger grip 12 for facilitating disengagement of the sash rail while the outer arm of said clip has an aperture 13 near its upper edgetopermit hanging of the assembly upon, a. convenient nail or hook when not in use.
The lower clip 10 serves to engage the top edge of the shield 8 to hold the same. This clip 10 is also provided with apertures 14 and 15. Theapertures 14 are preferably included in this lower clip to permit the insertion of some instrument or lever for spreading the arms of the clip, while the aperture 15 may be used in connection with the adjacent aperture 14 as a finger grip in manipulating the clip 10.
Referring to Figs. 4 and 5, wherein a modification of the invention is disclosed, it will be noted that I have formed the clips 9 and 10 of a hinged construction and have provided springs 16 of sheet metal formain- V taining the arms of the clips in holding pointermediate its ends through which the bolt 11 passes for pivotally maintaining the sections in assembled relation.
From the foregoing description read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the constructon of the invention will be readily understood. The device can be quickly applied to the lower sash rail 6 and the lower clip 10 can be adjusted in a manner to suit the occupant of the seat. By the adjustment of the device as shown in Fig. 1, stale air from the car will be permitted .to
