Description

s. KTELES .July 15 1924.
CLASP Patented July l5, 1924.
UNITED STATES STE-VEN xoTEIiEs, or CLAREMONT, VIRGINIA.
CLASP.
Application" filed September 13, 1923. Serial No. 662,432;
Tou/ZZ whom if may concern Be it known that l, STEVE-N Kommas', a citizen of Hungary, residing at Claremont, in the county of Surry and State of Virginia, have invented certainznew and useful Improvements in Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in clasps. l
rlhis claspv has been specially designed for use in barber shops. when preparing to cut the hair of a customer, places around the shoulders and body of the customer a cloth which is secured at the nape of the neck by means o-f a separable fastener' or a pin. These pins or separable. fasteners often become loosenedor undone and hair dropping downV thel neck of the customer causesgreaty discomfort especially during hot weather. Y
It is therefore, a prime object of, this invention to provide a clasp which when used for the aboveV mentioned use, can easily'and quickly be adjusted and when once adjusted can be securely locked in position.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a device which designed for use in barbe-r shops, is not necessarily limited thereto, but may be used for' numerous other purposes such as the hanging of clothing or the like.
A still further object of this invention, is to provide a device of the above mentioned character which is compact in struc-ture, durable and strong in use, and one that may be easily and quickly adjusted.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved clasp,
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the same shownin unlocked position,
Figure 3 is a side elevational view showing the same in a locked position,
Figure 4 is an end elevational view showing the clasp in an unlocked position,
Figure 5 is a side elevational View of a slight modification of my invention,
Figure 6 is an end 'elevational view of F ig. 5, and
Figure 7 is a cross sectional view taken on line VII- VII of Fig. 5.
Referring to the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustrationlike reference characters are. used to designate ylike parts throughout the several views, the numeral 8 indicates my improved clasp, which has Usually, the barberformed integrally therewith depending side members 9 which are provided with strengthening widths 10. Formed integrally with said clasp 3 is a spring arm 11, the purpose of which will be more fully hereinafter described.
Referring particularly to Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4, it will be seen that one ofthe armsv9, hasy an opening 12, as clearly shown' in Fig.V 4, formed near the open end thereof. Pivotally mounted in this opening 12 by means of a bracket 13, is a cam 14, which is adapted to engage a. spring arm 1-5 which is`V riveted to the inside of the depending member9, as at 16 as clearly shown in Fig. 1. The cam 14 is operated' by means of anl arm 17 formed integrally therewith.
Mounted in the center of the member 8 and secured by means of rivetingas at 18 is a square piny 19 which is provided at its lower extremity with a head 20.` Slidably mounted on the pin 19`is a triangular wedgeshaped member 21, which is provided on one of its angles with a plurality of teeth 22. Formed in the apex of the triangular wedge-shaped member 21 is a. small square passageway 23 which after a short distance is enlarged to form the passageway 24. Thus the small passageway forms an opening for the pin 19 to pass through while the head 2O of the pin 19 is engaged in the passage 24.r The shoulder 25 formed by the meeting of the two passageways 23 and 24 acts as a stop for the shoulder 20 of the pin 19. It will also be seen that on account of the passageways both being square the pin 19 being also square will thereby prevent the turning of the member 21, thereby holding the same in alinement with respect to the sides 9.
Referring to Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, when anything is desired to be clasped, the material is placed between the sides 9 and 11, the member 21 is then pushed upwardly with thefthumb forcing the spring arm 11 toward the side 9 which action iirmly clasps the goods. The arm 17 is then pushed upwardly forcing the cam 14 downwardly against t-he spring arm 15 which will engage oneof the saw teeth 22 carried by the member 21 thus locking the same in operative position.
Referring to Figs. 5 and 6 wherein is shown a modification of Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, there is shown attached to one of the side arms 9 by means of rivets 26 or the like outwardly extending arm 2T having an upturned portion 2S. The operation ot the clasp in Figs, 5 and 6 is substantially the same as before described with the exception that when the member 2i is forced upwardly to clasp the material the member 2S is grasped with the finger and pulled outwardly thus pulling the inwardly turned edge 29 'formed on the side member 9 ont ot engagement with the teeth 22 until the member Qi has been placed in an adjusted position when the member may be released allowing the member 29 to engage with one ot the teeth It is to be understood that various changes in the shape, size` and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing' from the spirit ot' the invention or the sro-pe of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described the inventiom l claim l1. A clasp having oppositely disposed depending side members, a depending` resilientarm rt'ormed integral with said clasp, a pin carried by said clasp, slidable clamping means associated with said pin and resilient arm, lockingmeans for said clamping means carried by one or" said oppositely disposed depending` side members and actuating,r means associated with said locking means for actuating said locking means.
2. A clasp haring oppositely disposed depending,T side membersg a resilient arm carried by said clasp, a pin mounted centrally of said clasp, a triangular Wedgeshaped clamping member cooperatina` with said resilient arm slidable on said pin and means carried by one ot' said side members for locking said Wedge in adjusted positiorn clasp having oppositely disposed de pending side members, a resilient clampingr arm associated With said clasp, a square pin mounted on said clasp, a slidable Wedge member mounted on said pin and adapted to engage said resilient clamping arm teeth Jformed on one side of said Wedge and lonking` means carried by one of said oppositely disposed dependingr side members adapted to engage said teeth.
'-t. It clasp haring oppositely disposed de pending` side members, a resilient clampingr arm associated Vwith said clasp, a square pin mounted on said clasp, a slidahle Wedge member having an opening ot large dimensionv communicating with an opening' of small dimension extending longitudinally therethrough mounted on said square pin, teeth formed on one side of said Wedge and lockingmeans carried byone of said oppositel;v disposed depending side members adapted to engage said teeth,
ln testimony whereof .l attiX my signature.
