PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM O. GQEBELL, OF PLAINVIEW, MINNESOTA.
TACKLE BOX.
Application filed December 15, 1922. Serial No. 807,167.
To all whom itmay concern:
Be it known that I WILLIAM O. GoRRnLL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plainview, in the county of Wabasha and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tackle Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful 1 im rovements in tackle boxes.
Sue object of my invention is to rovide a tackle box which is constructed entirely of wood with the exception of the hinges. handle or other trimmings and is practically watertight and for'this reason will float for an indefinite period should it accidentally fall into a body of water.
A further object of my invention is the employment of corks or other light substances for holding dry flies or feather minnows. This protects the points of the hooks and holds the flies or minnows in such a way that the windings and feathers do not become frayed and worn by being placed in a tray or box together in quantities.
With the foregoing and other objects in view that will appear as the nature of my invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, which are for illustrative purposes only and are therefore not drawn to scale and in which like parts are designated by like reference characters throughout the several views 2-- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a tackle box embodying my improvements.
4 Figure 2 is a plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a plan view with the box open. Figure 4 is a similar view, with the inner hinged cover over the opposite or upper section and, Figure 5 is a vertical transverse section of F 1 re 2.
Re erring to the drawings for a more particular description of my invention, my tackle box is preferably made of substan- 5 tially rectangular form and comprises two hinged sections, A and B, one of which is provided with a U shaped handle C for convenience in carrying and the other with a hinged latch or hasp D for locking the box when the sections are closed. Section A is provided with aplurality of compartments 1, 2 and 3 which may run transversely, longitudinally or diagonally of the box, as desired. Said compartments are utilized in carrying the tackle and may be closed b the hinged cover 4 carried by the section Section B is provided with a plurality of cylindrical blocks 6 of cork or other like substance for carrying or holding dry flies or feather minnows. This is an important feature of my invention, in that the use of a cork block for carrying the tackle will protect the point of the-hook and the flies or minnows are kept apart or out of contact and for this reason will not become frayed 7 and worn by being placed in a tray or box together in quantities. My improved tackle box provides ample room for plenty of tackle for either a bait caster or a fly caster, or for both combined as well as any other article in the line of tackle. The inside cover 4 prevents any of the bait from getting out of place by virtue of the fact that it covers the compartments of both sections A and B when the box is closed. The inside cover 4 is provided at its free edge with a hook 5 adapted to hook over or engage a pin 6 carried by the box section B and normally closes the compartments of section B when the box is open and laid out flat as in Figure 4. Under these circumstances, any piece of tackle in any one of the compartments of section A may be instantly obtained and by releasing the hook 5 the inside cover may be swung over into the position shown in Figure 3 when any piece of tackle carried by section B is instantly attainable.
In addition to the advantages of my device above set forth, it is pointed out that it is not easily overturned when opened and laid out flatwise and does not comprise any trays or movable parts liable to get out of place. 7
My tackle box is not only highly practicable, and readily accessible but is simple'and economical in construction and durable in use. I
From the foregoin description taken in connection with the rawings it is thought that the construction, operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended ex planation.
Various changes in the form, proportions and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departingl from the principles or sacrificing any of t e advantages of my invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent,is: i
A tackle box comprising body and lid sections hingedly connected together, the lid section having a top and side walls, spaced blocks of soft moisture absorbin material depending from the top wall of t e lid section and spaced from the side walls thereof, a cover anel hinged to one of the side walls of the 11d section and at the inner surface thereof and adapted to fit snugly within the side walls of the lid section with its edges in close contact with the inner surfaces of all of the side walls of the lid section and thereby forming an air tight compartment within the lid section, the cover panel when in closed position in the lid section havin its outer surface flush with the edges of afi of the side walls of the lid section whereby the cover panel lies above the up er edges of the side walls of the bed section when the lid section is at a closed position over the body section.
. In testimon whereof I afiix my si ature.
