PAUL KANTHACK, OF ONAWAY, MICHIGAN.
BAIT-BOX.
- Application filed December 23, 1919.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, PAUL KANTHAOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at naway, in the county of Presque Isle and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bait-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to a combined bait and tackle box for fishermen.
The object of the invention is to produce an article of this character having means whereby the same may be secured to a fish ermans belt, the said devicebeing divided into an upper bait compartment and into a lower compartment that has a slidable drawer therein and in which'the tackle is stored, spring means being provided for eX- erting a friction between the drawer and compartment to'hold the same against accidental movement, and means being also provided for preventing the entire withdrawal of the drawer. v
Other objects and advantages will appear as the nature of'the invention is better understood, reference being had to the accompanying trated a satisfactory embodiment of the invention reduced to practice.
In the drawings Figure 1 is. a view illustrating the manner in which the improvement is supported on the user.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view with the cover for the receptacle withdrawn to its full extent.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view. Fig. 4 is a sectional Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken in a line with the spring means between the drawer and the drawer compartment.
My improvement is broadly indicated by the numeral 10. The device is in the nature of a box having its inner wall 11 concaved and its outer wall 12 convex. On the inner wall 11 there are spaced guide loops 13 through which the belt 14 of the fisherman passes, and in this manner the box may be conveniently supported on the person of the fisherman. The boxlO is divided by a horizontal partition 15 into an upper bait compartment 16 and into a lower drawer compartment '17. The top of the box is partly open. and this portion thereof is closed by a flanged top cover 18 which is hingedly engaged to the top of the box.

drawings in which there is illusr view approximatelyon the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
- Patented Oct. 5, 1920. Serial No. 346,865.
Preferably the top cover 18 is spring influenced so that the same is normally retained in closed position, and in the construction illustrated the outer flange of the top is en gaged by a spring catch 19 on the outer wall 12 of the box.
In the drawer compartment 17 is a drawer 20. This drawer is provided with suitable partitions 21 dividing the same into a plurality of compartments each designed to receive several distinct parts of the fishing tackle.
On the lower wall of the drawer compartment there is secured one end of the leaf spring 22. The free end of this spring eX- ercises a pressure against the bottom of the drawer forcing the same toward the top of the compartment. The friction thus occasioned is sufiicient to hold the drawer against accidental movement. The drawer has its bottom provided with spaced lugs 23 that are received in elongated transversely disposed slots 24 in the lower wall of the drawer compartment. The lugs contacting with the end walls provided by the slots 24 limit the movement of the drawer in both an inward and an outward direction, so that it is impossible to fully withdraw the drawer from the compartment and thus lose'parts of the tackle. The drawer is, however, movable outwardly a sufficient distance to uncover all of the compartments therein so that access to the tackle may be thus readily obtained. The drawer is provided with a handle 25 upon its outer face whereby the same may be easily slid either inwardly or outwardly.
It is thought that the simplicity of the construction and the advantages thereof will be apparent from the foregoing without fur- I ther detailed description.
Having thus described the invention, what claim is 1. A combined bait and tackle box for fishermen, comprising a receptacle divided intoan upper and lower compartment, a hinged closure for the upper compartment, a drawer slidable in the lower compartment, spring means for holding the drawer against accidental movement, and means for limiting the movement of the drawer in both an inward and an outward direction.
2. A combined bait and tackle box for fishermen, comprising a receptacle divided into an upper and lower compartment, a spring influenced closure for the upper compartment, latch means for the closure, a drawer wall thereof and having one of its ends se- 10 slidable in the lower compartment, spring cured to the said wall, said wall having means for holding the drawer against acci elongated slots, a drawer slidable in the redental movement, and means for preventing ceptacle and having its bottom contacted by the entire withdrawal of the drawer from the spring and lugs on the bottom of the the compartmen said drawer received in the mentioned slots. 15 i 3. A combined bait and tackle box for In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
