GAME DEVICE.

To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, GURTIs L. CRUVER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game Devices, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to game devices, and more particularly to a device comprising a spinning top adapted to indicate, by the chance of its osition when at rest, certain legends, numbers or the like.

The object of the invention is to produce a spinning top constructed so that it will come to rest in one of a plurality of predetermined positions, and thereby selectively indicate a fortune telling legend or similar device imprinted upon the body of the top.

Another object is to provide in a top improved means for securing the body to the spindle thereby effecting a superior fastening and a material saving in cost of manufacture.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent in the following description of a preferred embodiment of my invention.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a top embodying the features of my invention in spinning position. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the body and fragmentary portions of the spindle in section. Fig. 3 is a plan View showing the peripheral construction of the body and an arrangement of imprinted legends thereon. Fig. 4 represents the top in position as at rest.

In the embodiment illustrated, the top is constructed with a body made of sheet metal and comprising a convex disk I having an annular rim 2 formed with angularly inclined faces adapted to give rigidity to the body. The outer downwardly inclined portion of the rim is shaped with a peripheral series of regularly spaced teeth 3, which in my preferred construction are rounded in form, givin an undulating contour to the periphery 0 the rim.

lower end of the spindle. The spindle 4 is constructed of impressionable material, preferably wood. A collar 6 fixed to the disk 1 surrounds the aperture 5 and receives the spindle 4. The collar 6 may be formed by so shaping the material upset in forming the aperture 5 in the disk 1. To fasten the body to the spindle, radial indentations 7 are made in the collar 6 after assembly with the spindle, the indentations being impressed into the structure of the spindle, and thus securing the spindle in rigid relation to the collar and body. In assembling the parts the indentations may be readily made by machine methods at very low cost, and without the use of separate fastening devices. 7

Upon losing its spinning momentum, the top being normally unstable falls upon the rim 2 and comes to rest with two of the teeth 3 and the spindle supporting the body and determining its position. The upper surface of the disk 1 may be divided into segmental spaces 8 lying between radial lines intersecting the several teeth, the spaces being vari-colored and having imprinted thereon any desired characters suitable for use in games of chance. In the present instance I have illustrated printed legends suitable for telling fortunes, the particular legend applicable to a person spinning the top being that right-side up in the uppermost position when the top comes to rest upon some particular pair of the peripheral teeth. Similarly, a number or other character may be indicated for play in a variety of games, the spaced teeth operating to position the top when at rest so that one of the segmental spaces is directly above the spindle.

It will now be apparent that I have provided an indicating top of very simple and cheap construction,- and in which the parts may be assembled in secure attachment at very low cost.

I claim as my invention:

1. A spinning top comprising a spindle having a pointed end, a disk thereon having its major portion circular in shape, an upturned rim about said disk integral therewith, the outer edge of said rim having spaced teeth-like projections thereon, said teeth being directed downwardly with reference to the disk towards the pointed end of of the spindle, whereby tWo teeth and the pointed end of the spindle support the top When at rest,

and a plurality of regularly spaced radially extending teeth formed on said rim any two adjacent teeth being adapted to support said rim when said top is at rest. 10
