CURTAIN AND LAUNDRY BAG.
Application filed Scptember24, 1 921. SeriaLNo. 592,?)68.
To all whom it may concern. Be ,it known. that I, GEORGE HENRY lY-rrnanma citizen of the United States, and resident ofRacine, in the county of Racine and State of Wisconsin, have invented'new and useful Improvements in Curtains and Laundry Bags, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the ac companying-drawings, which are a part of a ,bag whichmay be easily mounted within the V wardrobe section to cover the open front and top thereof.
*A a further object of the invention is to provide av curtain and laundry bag which willextend over the front and topvportion of a --wardrobe section to protect the garments.
therein and. which will also hold soiled linen H Land-keep it separatefromother articles of wear. I
A further object. of the invention is to -provide a combination trunk section cover and laundry bag which is adapted to main- 1 "tain garments suspended within the wardrobe section-of the trunk in positionon the hangers. I
-A further object of the invention is to provide a trunk laundry bag and cover in which parts-may be easily detached from the trunk toaper-mit'access to the garments or the cover I -n' aybe entirely removed from the trunk for -.c'leaning.
A'furtherobject of the invention is to pro :videa curtain. and laundry bag which is of simple constructiomlis strong and durable, 1g and is well adapted for the purpose defi scribe'd. y
the invention consists :of the impro cover 8. The :wardrobesectionis;
ith the above. and .other objects. in view 1 tain and laundry bag and its partsandqjcfomblnations as set forth inthe claiimfiaaridl, all equivalents thereof. 1'
In the accompanying drawings inwhich the same reference characters indicate :tlie same parts in all ofthevievvs: i
Fig. 1 is a front view of. the wardrobesection of a wardrobe trgunklshowinlg the -improved curtain and laundry oaat'ed .therein, a part shown; as broken away, the
viewalso showing a portion of theot her.section of the trunk; l v
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof taken on line 22 of 1,
3 is a sectional detail view of the .rod, on a larger scale, for connecting the. rear edge portion of thecurtain ,to the: wardrobe section, the view. alsoishowingportions of trunk section; and
Fig. 4 is a similar view of the lower connecting member of the cover. Referring to the drawing the numeral 5 indicates the wardrobe section of a wardrobe trunkand 6the drawer section-hinged-thereto. The wardrobe section is also formcd with an open top 7 providedw ith, a hinged a "o i e with upper parallel-fixed tracks 9, hingedextensiontracks 10, garment hangers li slidabl y mounted onthetracks andia swingable 5 shoe box 12'mounted the lower front portion of the wardrobe section.
The improved curtain and laundry bag 13 comprises apiece of material, such as fabric, which extends horizontally from the upper rear portion ofthe wardrobe sectionof the trunk over the .garmenthangers and the. ex- .tension tracks and thendownwardly in front of the ,wardrobesection. and terminating in front of the upper edge portion ofthe shoe box. -The upper rear edge' portion of the fabric is in the form ofa loop l tfcrremovably receiving a rear connecting ,bar 15 V which .is formed with reducedend portions 15 and 16adapted to enteropenings 17 -Y'in the collar 18 of the wardrobesection. The
reduced end portion 16 ofthe-bar. 15.. is in 1. h -p1i1ne vhichi ali'ldebly mounted in the tubular endportion of the bar and is yieldingly urged outwardly by a coiled spring 19 positioned in said tubular end portion. In removing the bar it is only necessary to push the reduced end portion 16 inwardly to clear the side portion of the collar and the end of the bar may then be swungupwardly and the other end withdrawn endwise from the other side of the collar. k The vertically extending portion 13 of the fabric is of double thickness with the inher portion of considerable fullness to form a laundry bag 20, access to which is through the opening 21 closed in any manner desired but preferably by a slidable locking member 22 also of ordinary construction.
' By positioning the laundry bag portion in. the lower front portion ofthe wardrobe section, lspace is utilized which is not ordinarily used and as garments are removed from the hangers and the space is gradually,
automatically increased inwardly for hold- "extension bar end and between the ends of said extension and said bar removably holds the lower portion of the curtain connected to the valance 0f the trunk. To release the lower portion of the curtain it is only neces sary to grasp the bar 24 at any point and push it a slight distance towards the extension end to disengage the other end from the valance and tilt the free end and then move the bar endwise to disengage the extension end from the other part of the valance. This construction also permits the easy removal of the bars from the fabric so that said fabric can be easily cleaned.
As the fabric extends over the open top andfront open side portion of the wardrobe section, it forms a protecting cover for the garments suspended from the hangers mounted with said section. From the foregoing description it will be 'en'that the curtain and laundry ba i f y simple construction and is well adapted 1 the P pose described.
hat claim as my invention: ll The combination with a trunk ward- I robe'section having an open top and front and a garment hanger track and hangers Qn ounted thereon, said trunk section also having opposite side openings'in its upper rear and lower front portions, of a curtain and laundry bag therefor, comprising a fab ric extending over the track and covering the open top and front and having looped upper rear and lower front edge portions the portion of the fabric covering the open front being in the form of a bag having a front opening, means supporting the upper front portion of the fabric, and endwise yieldable bars extending through the looped upper rear and lower front edge portions of the fabric and entering the trunk section opposite side openings for removably connecting the fabric to said trunk section.
2. The combination with a trunk wardrobe section having an open top and front and a garment hanger track and hangers mounted thereon, said trunk section also having opposite side openings, of a curtain and laundry bag therefor, comprising a fabric extending over the track and covering the open top and front and having 'loope upper and lower edge portions, the portion of the fabric covering the open front being in the form of a bag having a front opening, and bars extending through the looped edge portions of the fabric and entering the trunk section opposite side openings for removably connecting the fabric to said trunk section, said bars having yieldable end extensions which enter some of the opposite side openings. X
3. The combination with a trunk Wardrobe section having an open top and front and a garment hanger track extension extending transversely of the upper front portion of the trunk section, said trunk section also having garment hangers mounted on the extension track and openings formed in the opposite side portions of said trunk section, of a curtain and laundry bag therefor, comprising a fabric extending over the extension track and covering the open top and front and having looped upper and lower edge portions, the portion of the fabric covering the open front being in the form of a bag having a front opening, and bars extending through the looped edge portions of the fabric and entering the trunk section opposite side openings for removably connecting the fabric to said trunk section, said bars having yieldable end extensions which enter some of the opposite side openings.
4. The combination with a trunk wardrobe section having an open top and front and a garment hanger track extension extending transversely of the u per front portion of the trunk section, sai trunk section also having garment hangers mounted on the extension track and openings formed in the opposite side portions of said trunk section, of a curtain and laundry bag therefor, comprising fabric extending over the extension track and covering the open top and front and having looped upper and lower edge portions, the portion of the fabric covering the open front being in the form of a, bag having a front opening, and bars extending through the looped edge portions of the fabric and entering the trunk section opposite side openings for removably connecting the fabric to said trunk section, said 7 bars having extensions on one end which enter some of the opposite side openings, and coiled springs interposed between the extensions and the-bars for holding the ex tensions yieldingly in their outer positions.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature.
