IMPRQVEMENT IN SNOW-FLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,057, dated April 21, 1874; application filed January 13, 1874.
CASE B.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTEMAS S. KIMBALL, of Bellows Falls, State of Vermont, have invented a Railroad-Track Clearer, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to remove snow from the railroad-track easily and quickly. This I would do by means of a track-clearer.
O 0 represent the clearer on the track, with two wheels under the front end to hold it the right distance from the track. When set in motion, the snow is raised upon an inclined plane between the two sides. WVhen halfway up it meets with S S, the divider, which splits the whole volume oomin g in at the mouthinto equal parts, and discharges it so raised out of both wings, on the back end of the clearer, on each side of the track. The back end of the clearer grows wider from the center of the length, on
all the snow from a straight line, and the back end of the divider is as wide as the mouth of the clearer. The front end of the clearer is covered, and the cover runs above the center of the clearer one-fifth of its length. The back end of the clearer may fall below the line of thefront end, more or less as circumstances may require. The wings of the clearer are hung with hinges, so they can be closed up in order to pass narrow bridges or other trains.
The whole clearer is made of wrought-iron and thin steel plates firmly riveted together.
I am aware that plows have been made having an inclined plane, combined with diverging wings and a central divider, and I do not claim this broadly but What I claim as my invention is A snow-plow having the inclined plane B, inclosed at the top and at the sides, combined with the divider S S, the hinged wings D, and the coupling-pins d d, all as and for the purpose described.
ARTEMAS S. KIMBALL.
