Description

July 8, 1924.
'r. E. BART BUBBLER HEAD FOR DRINKING FOUNTAINS Filed June 22 Patented July 8, 1924.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. H
THOMAS E. BART, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE MURDOGH MANUFACTUR- ING- AND SUPPLY COMPANY, A. CORPORATION OF OHIO.
BUBBLER HEAD FOR DRINKING FOUNTAINS.
Application filed June 22, 1920. Seria1 No. 390,849.
T 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, THOMAS E. BART, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bubbler Heads for Drinking Fountains, of which the following is a specification.
An object of my invention is a bubbler head in which the regulator for controlling the flow of water into the head performs also the function of guarding the bubbler exit against the insertion of foreign substances into the bubbler head;
Another object of my invention is a hubbler head of simplified construction.
These and other objects are attained by the means described in the specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which V Fig. 1, is a central sectional view of a bubbler head embodying my invention.
. Fig. 2, is a plan view thereof with the cap removed.
The bubbler of my invention comprises a cup portion A, having an entrance port a and a bridge a, in which is seated a regulating stem B, and a cap D which has a central opening into which the upper end of the stem B extends.
Cup A has internal screw threads around its upper edge which cooperate with the screw threads upon the downwardly ex tending flange (Z of the cap D. Surrounding the entrance port a of the bubbler cup, is a beveled valve seat a which cooperates with the beveled end 6 of the stem B in regulating the size of the entrance opening.
Bridge a supports a central internally screw threaded collar w, the screw threads of whichengage the screw threads 6 upon the stem B. I
Cap D has surrounding its central open ing, a cylindrical flange d around the upper edge of which is a circular lip d The upper end of the stem B has a spherical head 6 of a diameter slightly less than the internal diameter of the flange d of the cap. The distance between head 6 and flange d is made such that it affords a circular exit for the water of a size such as to form a bubble of water of a shape desirable for drinking purposes, and at the same time of a size to prevent the insertion into the bubbler head of foreign substances, such as pins, pen points, lead pencil points, etc. The lip 0Z surrounding the opening in the cap likewise increases the difficulty of inserting foreign substances into the opening between the head of the stem and the central flan e of the cap.
Ifaving thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. In a bubbler head the combination of a cup having an entrance port, a valve stem' having an end adapted to regulate the size of the entrance port and at its other end a globular head, a cap closing the cup and having a central opening surrounded by a flange whereby an elongated passageway is formed through the cap within which way the globular head of the stem is disposed, thereby forming a guarded exit port for the water.
2. In a bubbler head the combination of a cup having an entrance port, a cap closing the cup and having an elongated central opening extending in alignment with the entrance port, a valve stem mounted adjustably in the cup having an end adapted to regulate the siz-e'of theinlet port and at its other end a globular head lying within the elongated central opening.
3. In a bubbler the combination of a cup having an entrance port, a cap closing the cup and having an elongated central opening in alignment with the entrance port, the outer end of the central opening being slightly reduced in size, and a valve stem mounted within the cap having an end regulating the size of the inlet port and having its other end disposed within the central opening in the cap, and a globular head for-med on the valve stem and disposed within the central opening adjacent the reducedv portion thereof.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name this 21st day of June,
THOMAS E. BART.
Certificate of Correction.
It is hereby certified that the name of the assignee in Letters Patent No. 1,500,178, granted July 8, 1924, upon the application of Thomas E. Bart, of Cincinnati, Ohio, for an improvement in Bubbler Heads for Drinking Fountains, should have been Written and printed as The Murdock Manufactum'n and Supply Company instead of The Murdoch Manufacturing and Supply ompany, as shown by the records of assignments in this office; and that the said'Let-tersl Patent should be read With this correction therein the the same may conform to the record of the case in the Patent Office.
Signed and sealed this 19th day of August, A. D. 1924.
