Description

D. L. ALGER AQUATIC GAME Filed Sept. 19. 1925 2 Sheets-Sheet l Patented ,luly l, i924.
DON L. ALGER, F AVALON, CALIFORNIA.
AQUATIC GAME.
Application filed September 19, 1923. Serial No. 663,533.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DON L. ALGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Avalon, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Aquatic Games, of which the followingis a specification.
In carrying out the present invention it is my purpose to provide a highly novel and interesting game that is adapted to be played by bathers while in the water, and one that will prove a high form of amusement for the participants of the game.
The primary object of my invention resides in the provision of such anaquatic game that includes a plurality of various form game pieces that are extremely s1m, ple in construction and that may be manufactured and marketed at small cost.
WVith the above and other objects in view as thenature of the invention is better understood the same comprises the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification shown in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters. indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 is a group view of the different elements comprising my novel aquatic game,
Figure 2 is an enlarged side elevation partly in cross section of one of the buoyant participant supporting elements comprised in my game,
Figure 3 is a transverse'cross section taken substantially upon the line 8-3 of Figure 2,
Figure 4C is an enlarged fragmentary cross section through one of the goal elements that comprises an essential part of this game, and
Figure 5 is a fragmentary cross section therethrough, in this View the goal being shown as anchored to the bottom of the body of water in which the game is being played.
Now having reference to the drawings and particularly to Figure 1, it will be seen that my novel aquatic game comprises six buoyant participant supporting elements designated generally 5, six steering and playing bats 6, one playing ball 7 that is preferably of hollow rubber in the shape of a ball, two goal elements 8, and six counter pieces 9 for each goal element.
There are two sets of the game elements with the exception of the playing ball 7 the elements of one set being preferably of the color green while the game pieces of the other set are preferably of the color red.
,Each of the buoyant participant supporting elements 5 is preferably in the shape of an enlarg g'ed fish and comprises a hollow metallic body portion 10 thickened at its bottom side as more clearly shown in Figure 2 for balancing purposes and provided with a drain plug 11. Secured to the front end of said hollow body section 10 is a head 12 while secured to the opposite end of said body section is a flexible tail portion 18 the body section 10 being provided inter ,mediate its ends and upon its top side with a rubber mat 13 for lessening the liability of the participant slipping therefrom by sitting upon this buoyant supporting element.
Each of the goal elen'ients 8 is in the ate-shaped sections 15 hingedly secured. at
section as shown in Figure 5 and consisting of a desirable buoyant material and preferably of cloth. Each of these rings is an chored. to the bottom of the body of water by a pair of anchoring means at diametri cally opposite points of the ring as indicated generally at 17.
In actual practice the green paddle pieces 9 are placed within the green goal element 8 while the red paddle pieces 9 are placed within the other goal element and the playing ball 7 is positioned at a predetermined point, the object of the game being for the players upon the red buoyant supporting element to propel themselves in the water by the paddles 6 and at the same time endeavor to knock the ball 7 into their opponents goal element. Upon the ball 7 being knocked into the goal of the opponent, one of the counters is removed from the ring into which the ball is knocked and placed into the other ring, and as soon as one side has relieved its opponent of all its game pieces as well as any of its own game pieces that the opposing side may have in its ring, the game is won.
In view of the above description when taken in consideration with the accompany ing drawings, it will be at once apparent that I have provided an aquatic game that will afford a high degree of amusement for both the participants and the lockers-on, and even though I have herein set forth and shown that the difierent elements of this game are of certain structural form and that the game is to be played in a certain specip fied manner, it is nevertheless to be understood that departures may be had without affecting the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and'desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In an aquatic game of the character set forth, apair of buoyant goal elements Within each of which is to be positioned aseries of buoyant counting elements, abuoyant playing ball, a series of buoyant participant supporting elements, and a steering and batting paddle for each participant for use in assisting in'moving from place to place and for striking the ball in endeavoring to knock the same into the goal piece of the opposing side;
2. In an aquatic game of the character set forth, a pair of circular goal elements of a buoyant nature and within which are to be positioned game pieces also of a buoyant nature, means for anchoring said goal ele--- ments, a buoyant playing ball, buoyant supporting elements for the participants of the game, and means for 'assisting in themovements of the participants as well as for actuating a ball in an endeavor to knock the same into the goal piece of the opposing side.
3. In an aquatic game of the character set forth, a pair of circular goal elements of a buoyant nature and within which are to be positioned game pieces also of a buoyant nature, means for anchoring said goal elements, a buoyant playing ball, buoyant supporting elements for the participants of the game, means for assisting in the movements of the participants as well as for actuating a ball in an endeavor to knock the same into the goal piece of the opposing side, said buoyant participant supporting elements comprising a hollow metallic body provided with a head and tail piece.
4. In an aquatic game of the character set forth, a'pair of circular goal elements of a buoyant nature and within which are to be positioned game pieces also of a buoyant nature, means for anchoring said goal elements, a buoyant playing ball, buoyant supporting elements forthe participants of the game, means'for assisting in the movements of the participants as well as for actuating a ball in an endeavor to knock the same into the goal piece of the opposing side, said goal elements comprising a series of arcuateshaped sections of buoyant material hingedly secured together at their opposite ends.
In testimony whereof I afiix mysignature.
DON L. Arena.
