IMPROVEMENT IN VAPOR-BATHS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,945, dated April 21, 1874; application filed November 15, 1873.
.To au whom it may concern: y
Be it known that we, VOLNEY MiLLEn and HORACE COLE, of Andover, in the county of Harrison and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Vapor Bath, oi' which the following isa specification: Y
The invention will rst be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim;
Figure 1 is a plan View of our improved vapor-bath. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation taken on the line .fr x of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the dampers or valves for controlling the vapor.
A represents a small case for confining the vapor around the subject. It has a small hole, B, through the top, with a door, including part C of the top opening to said hole, for the patient to enter and adj ust himself to inclose the whole of his body except the head. D is a vertically-adjustable seat under the hole B, under which is a vapor distributing pan, E,
` which rests on the top of the tight case F, in
which the vapor is produced in a pan, G, un der which the alcohol-lamp is burned, said pan being mounted on a sliding pan, I, iu which the lamp is placed to be put into and removed from the case. A hole through the top of case F admits the vapor up into pan E, from which it escapes in a distributed way into the room occupied by the patient. A pipe, K, extends up from case F through the top of case A, to let the vapor escape when in excess. .L represents a double damper 0r valve attached to the slide N, arranged with passage a, and the entrance 4b to pipe N, that it opens one and closes the other, so as to prevent the escape of the vapor into distributing pan E, and open the escape through the pipe K, or the reverse, according to which way it is moved. P is a valve in the top of the case, by which the patient can open or close the escape-passage Q, and regulate the escape of the vapor from the bath while sitting in it.
The passage Q and the pipe K discharge into an escape-pipe, R, attached to the top of the case A.
This eontrivance is very simple and cheap, y
