Specification of Letters Patent No. 14,993, dated June 3, 1856.

To all 'whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, IVILLIAM ALLEY, of Columbus, in the county of Muscogee, in the State of Georgia, have invented and discovered an Improved Pessary; and I do hereby declare that the following is full and exact description thereof.

The nature of my invention consists in the addition of circular Wings, springs and hinges to the common or ordinary pessary now in use, and Worn by females to prevent the falling of the womb.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.

I take the ordinary pessary now in use and on the inside edge of the rim on the convex side I attach opposite each other a perpendicular Wing-which are connected at their base with hinges-and on the inside of each wing and attached to the pessary I place two perpendicular springs of any given strength, which may please the wearer of the instrument.

This instrument is better adapted than any other to be worn by females who are suffering from the falling of the womb, from the fact that the wings with the springs attached prevent the instrument from getting misplaced; further, that is so constructed as to apply itself to the vagina,

applying itself to the curve in the acrum.
