WINDOW SHADE ADJUSTER Filed Feb. 18, 1921 Patented July l, 1924.

WINDOW-SHADE ADJUSTER.
Application filed February 18, 1921. Serial No. 446,073.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE T. BUNDY, J r., a citizen of the United States, residing at- Far Rockaway, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Window-Shade Adjuster, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for adjusting window shades and more particularly to an implement adapted to be attached tothe window frame preliminary to mounting a window shade in position whereby one end of the Window shade may be adjusted for the purpose of properly aligning the Window shade preliminary to securing the shade supporting brackets in position.
Other objects of the invention will appear upon consideration of the following detail description and accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation of a portion of a window frame showing a window shade mounted thereon and the manner-of using the adjuster.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the adjuster showing one. of the window shade brackets applied thereto,
Figure 3 is a detail transverse section through the adjuster.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, the adjuster consists of a flat plate cut and shaped to form the essential parts of the adjuster, and these consist of the guide member 1 which is in the form of an elongated plate having a longitudinal slot 3 extending from the upper end thereof to a point near the lower end. From this point an outstanding lug 4: projects and the latter is provided with a screw threaded opening through which a screw bolt 5 is passed, the lower end of the screw bolt being provided with a head 6 to conveniently receive a screw driver or similar implement. From the lower end of the guide member 1, an attaching plate 7 extends at right angles and is slightly offset so that a space is provided between the guide member 1 and the surface of the window frame when the adjuster issecured in the position shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing. Openings 8 are provided in the fastening plate to receive temporary fastening elements for this purpose.
When the device is used, one end of the window shade will be mounted in one of the window shade brackets in the usual manner. It then becomes necessary to mount the other bracket in a position whereby the window shade will be perfectly straight and properly extend across the window frame. To accomplish this, the adjuster is first mounted in position as shown in Fig. 1 by securing the fastening plate 7 to the Window frame by fastening elements extending through the openings 8. The window shade bracket is then placed in the longitudinal slot in the guide member so that it rests upon the adjusting screw 5. This will hold the bracket temporarily while the end of the shade roller is placed in the opening in the bracket. The
adjusting screw may then be turned so that the bracket will be raised or lowered whereby the end of the window shade will also be raised or lowered to bring the window shade to the proper level whereby. it will extend perfectly straight across the window frame.
WVhen the proper level is reached, fastening screws may be employed to secure the window shade bracket to the window frame after which the adjuster may be easily removed by removing the fastening elements from the openings 8. In this manner, one person may adjust the window shade with very little trouble.
Minor changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
- What is claimed is I I Ina device of the character described, the combination with a window frame and shade bracket providedwith means whereby it may besecured to the window frame, of a fastening plate, a guide member carried by the fastening plate and including a vertically disposed portion having a longitudinally extending slot open at its upper end to allow the fastening plate to be withdrawn after the shade bracket has been'secured to the window frame, a lug at the lower end of the screw to be raised and lowered when the guide member and provided with a screw screw is adjusted. 10 threaded opening, an adjusting screw mount- In testimony whereof, I have afiixed my ed in the said opening and having a screw signature in the presence of two witnesses.
