To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that MOTIMORE GREEN, a-
"citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of ennsylvania, has invented new and useful Improvements in Masonry Spacing and Facing Elements, of which the following is a specification.
The ob'ect of the invention is to provide a spacer or the units of brick, cement block,
and masonry walls, generally, whereb the joint forming cement may be confine and concealed and a uniform spacing of the masonry units insured and incidentally to provide an element of this type which is adapted also to perform the function of a joint facing member which is susceptible of a treatment in coloring or otherwise which is either in uniformity with or in contrast to the units of the wall or like structure in connection with which the device is used; and with these objects in view the invention consists in a construction and arrangement of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the drawings, wherein Figure 1 represents a portion of a wall made up of bricks or blocks between which are interposed spacing and facing elements embodying the mvention.

The device consists essentiall of a hollow frame 10 of a contour exterior y which corres onds with the structure in connectionwit which it is to be used and which, for example, in connection with a fiat wall composed of flat faced units such as the blocks or bricks 11 as shown in the drawing, is of rectangular form and is of a thickness which corresponds with the preferred spacing of the units 11 of the structure with its peripheral edges flush or substantially flush with those of the units to form a joint facing which may be suitably ornamented or may be surfaced to accord or contrast with surfaces of the units. The space. bounded by the frame and which is indicated at 12 is adapt ed for the reception of cement for binding the ornaments of the structure and for proper relation in accordance with the usual practice of seating bricks, building blocks and other masonry units in cement. The facing frame serves to provide a finish for the joints between the units of the structure without the necessity of pointing as in the ordinary practice andunder conditions insuring greater durability and of more uniform appearance than is possible under the present practice.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful is- 1. A spacing device for interposition between the adjacent faces of the units of a masonry structure, consisting of a hollow frame bounding a s ace adapted for the reception of cement or uniting units of said structure. a

A spacing device for interposition between the adjacent faces of the units of a masonry structure, consisting of a hollow frame bounding a space adapted for the reception of cement for uniting units of said structure, the frame having an exterior contour corresponding withthe superficial contour of; the structure in connection with nature.
