Description
STATES P A i;
OTTO IPESTEB, OF BRUDERHEIM, ALBERTA, CANADA.
DRESS FORM.
Application filed July 7,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, OTTO PESTER, a citizen of the Republic of Germany, residing at Bruderheim, in the Province of Alberta and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dress Forms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in garment forms and has for an object the provision of a collapsible and expansible form, which may be adjusted to different sizes, for the purpose of fitting garments thereon, or may be entirely collapsed and stored in a relatively small space when not in use.
With the above and other objects in View, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of a dress form constructed in accordance with the in vention. l i
Figure 2 is a side elevation partly in section.
Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view showing the air valve.
Referring in detail to the drawingsfwherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a form which is herein shown as full length, although the form may be made as a bust or three-quarter length form if desired.
The form is shaped to conform to the human body and is of hollow formation, being constructed of elastic air-proof material, such as impervious rubber fabric. The body is designed to be expanded by air pressure and for this purpose is provided with a nipple 11 within which is located a check valve 12, so that air under pressure may be forced into the body, but pressure from within will act to seat the valve. The nipple '11 may be connected with any suitable source of compressed air supply, such as a pump. By this means, the body 10 may be expanded, the degree of expansion depending upon the 1922. Serial No. 573,495.
size of the garment to be'fitted. Thus, a single form may be used by a number of persons of different size, the size of the form being regulated by the amount of air forced therein. Also the air may be entirely expelled from the form, whereupon the latter may be folded for storage in a very small space.
In order to properly support the form and permit of the latter being rotated for convenience in fitting garments, the lower end or bottom of the form is stiffened. To complish this there is provided upon the inner and outer faces of the bottom of the form, stiffening panels 13 and 14, the inner panel 13 and the outer panel l l clamping between them the bottom wall of the form 10. Secured to and extending from the bottom panel 1% is a screw 15, the head 16 of which is positioned within a counter-sunk opening in'the panel 14, while the panel 13 acts to close this opening and hold the screw in place. This form of connection provides a swivelled connection between the screw 15 and the form 10 so that the latter may be freely revolved upon the screw. The screw 15 threadedly engages a socket in the upper end of a pedestal 17 and by adjusting this screw within the socket, the height of the form may be regulated.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is:
A garment form comprising a hollow body, stifi'ening panels clamped upon the. inner and outer faces of the bottom wall of the body, one of said panels being provided with a recess and an opening, a screw extending through the opening, a head upon the inner end of the screw within the recess, whereby said panels provide a stiff base and a screw securing means, and a pedestal having. a threaded engagement with the screw.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
OTTO rns rnn.
