DISPLAY-FORM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 1, 1914. Serial No. 864,506.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mom GREENWALD, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the countyof New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Display-Forms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a display form of the manikin type employed for displaying the style and fit of garments of all kinds.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a display form of the character referred to, which may be utilized equally well for displaying ladies, mens and childrens garments. A further object is to provide a display form which may be readily adjusted to simulate various poses of the human body, in a natural and unconstrained manner.
A further object is to provide means by which the height of the figure may be varied.
The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claims:
In the accompanying drawing z+Figure 1 is a front view of a display form con structed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a top plan .view of the leg plate. Figs. 4, 5, and 6 are detail views illustrating the joint members.
Referring to the drawing, 10 designates the bust section of the form, 11 the hip section, and 12, 13, the leg portions, respectively, all constructed of any suitable or desirable material. The best section is provided at its bottom with a cross section 14 having a boss 15 to receive the shank 16 of a' supporting member provided at its lower end with a ball 17 said shank being engaged by a set screw 18 carried by said boss. The top of the hip section 11 is also provided with a cross piece 19 having a socket 20 to receive the ball 17. Said ball is retained in position by a ring or collar 21 secured to a flange of the socket 20 (see Fig. 4) and pivotal movement of said ball member is prevented by a set screw 22.
The hip section 11 is provided with an internal supporting plate 23 having a boss 24 to receive the shank 25 which supports the leg-plate 26, said shank being engaged by a set screw 27 carried by said boss. By means of this arrangement, the leg plate may be adjusted toward or from the supporting plate 23, and held in adjusted relation. The leg plate is provided with slots 28, as indicated in Fig. 3. The portions 12 and 13 are shaped to represent the human leg, the member 12 being shown rigid, and

the member 13 as formed of articulated sections. The leg member 12 is provided with a shank 29 passed through one of the slots 28 of the leg plate, being held in the desired adjusted position bymeans of a suitable nut 30. The shank 31 of a ball member 32 is passed through the other slot 28, said shank being also provided with a thumb nut 33 to hold the shank to any adjusted position. The ball member 32 is engaged by a socket 34 secured to the upper end of a thigh member 35, said ball member being retained within said socket by a collar 36 secured to a suitable flange on said socket, as indicated in Fig. 5. The thigh member 35 is held at any desired angle with respect to the hip portion by means of a set screw 37. The lower end ofthe thigh portion 35 is provided with a second socket 38 to receive a ball member 39, said ball member being held in place by means of a flange 40, secured in suitable manner to said socket, as indicated in Fig. 6. member is provided with a shank 41 extending longitudinally into the upper end of a foot member 42. A plate 43 is countersunk into the foot member 42 and provided with a threaded opening for the passage of a set screw 43*, the end of which engages shank 41 to prevent relative movement of said shank and said foot portion. Said shank is held at any desired angle with respect to said thigh member by means of a set screw 44 engaging the ball member 39.
In order to support the figure in an upright position, the .leg plate is provided with a pivoted arm 47 extending rearwardly therefrom and provided with a socket in its free end to receive the upper end of a supporting rod 45. 'Said rod is engaged by a set/screw 46 to prevent slipping thereof.
In operation, the form is supported in an upright position by means of the legsand the rod 45. By loosening the set screw 18 the bust section 10 may be adjusted up or down with relation to the hip portion, and by manipulating the set screw 22 said bust section may be adjusted to any desired angle with respect to the hip portion. The articulated leg may also be adjusted to conform to the pose of the bust portion. By manipu Said ball lating the set screw 87, the angle of the thigh portion with respect to the hip portion may be regulated, and by correspondingly manipulating the set screw 44 the leg portion may be adjusted to any desired angle with respect to the thigh portion. The di tance between the thigh portion and the upper end of the foot portion 42 may be adjusted by loosening the set screw 43. The arm 47 is turned to the right or left, as may be necessary after any adjustment or change of position of the adjustable leg, so that the rod 45 will cooperate with the two legs to form a tripod which will firmly support the figure.
Having thus explained the nature of my invention, and described an operative manner of constructing and using the same, although without attempting to set forth all of the forms in which it may be made, or all of the forms of its use, What I claim 1s 1. An improved display form comprising a hip section, a bust section, means whereby universal angular adjustment of said bust section with respect to the hip section may be effected, means whereby the bust section may be adjusted toward and from the hip section, and legs attached to said hip section.
2. An improved display form comprising a hip section provided with an upper cross piece, an upwardly extended rigid supporting member carried by said cross piece, a bust section having a lower cross piece en gaging said supporting member, means whereby universal angular adjustment of said bust section with respect to the hip section may be effected, and means whereby the bust section may be adjusted toward and from the hip section.
3. An improved display form comprising a hip section provided with an upper cross piece, an upwardly extended rigid supporting member having its low .r end connected with said cross piece by a universal joint, a bust section vertically adjustable upon the upper portion of said supporting member, and legs attached to said hip section.
4. A display form comprising a hip section, a bust section attached to the hip section, a leg plate connected with said hip section and vertically adjustable with respect thereto, a rigid leg member attached to said leg plate, and a second leg member attached to said leg plate and formed of articulated sections, said leg plate and leg members having means whereby the relative positions of the legs may be varied.
5. A display form comprising a lip sec tion, a bust section attached thereto, a supporting rod engaging said hip section, a rigid leg attached to the hip section, and a second leg attached to said hip section and formed of articulated sections to effect variations in the pose of the display form.
6. A display form comprising a hip section, a bust section attached thereto, a supporting rod engaging said hip section, a rigid leg attached to the hip section, a thigh member attached to the hip section, a foot member attached to the thigh member, and means whereby the foot member may be adjusted toward and from the thigh member to effect variations in the pose of the display form.
7. A display form comprising a hip sec tion, a bust section attached thereto, a supporting rod engaging said hip section, a rigid leg attached to the hip section, a thigh member attached to the hip section by a universal joint, a foot member attached to the thigh member by a. universal joint, means for locking said universal joints against movement, and means whereby the foot member may be adjusted toward and from the thigh member to effect variations in the pose of the display form.
8. A display form comprising ahip section, a bust section attached thereto, a plate attached to the hip section, a rigid leg attached to said leg plate, a second leg attached to said leg plate and formed of articulated sections, a socket member attached to said leg plate, and a supporting rod ongaging said socket member.
9. A display form comprisin a hip sec tion provided with an internal supporting plate, a bust section attached to said hip section, a leg plate adjustably connected with said supporting plate, a rigid leg attached to said leg plate, and a second leg attached to said leg plate and formed of articulated sections, said leg plate and legs having means whereby the relative positions of the legs may be varied.
