Be it known that 1, WILLIAM A. Kn'LsnY, a'citizen of the- United States, residentof Minneapolis, county of Hennepin, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dental Tool Hold ers, of which-thefollowing is a specification;
The object of my invention is to provide a holder wherein dental tools may be'sup ported and held during the operation of grinding their cutting edges. Tools of this kind are comparatively small and delicate and have narrow cutting edges for working around the teeth and itis very essential that these edges be ground 'un'iformlyor the tool will not fit the'tooth surface that is'being operated on.
Furthermore, it is essential thatthe cutting edgesare not ground too-much or too little or'the tool will be rendered useless forthe purpose for which it isdesigned;
My invention consist s, therefore, in providing 'a' holder adapted to receive tool shanks of different shapes and for holding the cutting edges in the desired position for grinding.
Further the invention consists in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims. a

The movable jaw and the seats or stationary jaws are preferably formed, as shown in the sectional views, with bearing surfaces at the front and rear, while the middle portion is recessed or cut away, the forward portion of the stationary jaw being substantially the same for all the tools to receive the extremity of the shank and support the cutting edges of the tools in the same relative position with respect to the bottom of the holder and the grinding surface of the stone on which the tool is placed.
The rear side of the holder shows the stationary jaw seats upon different levels to accommodate tool shanks of different shape, while the face or front of the holder shows thejaw seats upon the same level to support the cutting edges of the tools in the same relative position and insure uniform contact of said edges with the grinding surface.
I claim as my invention:
1. A dental tool holder comprising a base having a fixed jaw therein to receive the shank of a dental tool, with the cutting edge i of the tool depending below the under surface of said base, the surface of said fixed jaw below which said tool depends being flush substantially with a surface of said base, and a movable jaw mounted in said holder for engaging and clamping the tool shank therein.
2. A dental tool holder comprising a base provided with stationary jaw seats formed to fit straight and curved shanks, with the edges of the tools depending below the under surface of said base for contact with the grinding surface. and a movable jaw for clamping all the tool shanks on said stationary jaw seats.
3. A dental tool holder comprising a base having stationary jaw seats therein to receive tool shanks of diflerent shape, with the edges of the tools depending below the under surface of said base, a yoke mounted on said base at an incline and a movable jaw therein for engaging the shanks of the tools, a screw mounted in said yoke and having a ball and socket bearing in said movable jaw and means for guiding said jaw in said yoke.
4. A dental tool holder comprising a base having stationary jaw seats therein to re ceive tool shanks of different shape, with the edges of the tools depending below the under surface of said base, a yoke mounted on said base and a movable jaw therein for engaging the shanks of the tools, a screw .mounted in said yoke and having a ball and socket bearing in said movable jaw and means for guiding said jaw in said yoke, said means comprising pins fitting within a socket in said jaw and slidable in recesses provided in said yoke.
5. A dental tool holder comprising a base, a yoke member mounted thereon at an incline to the vertical, said base having a fixed jaw upon which the shank of the tool to be sharpened is seated, the surface of said fixed jaw beyond which the edge of the tool to be sharpened projects being flush substantially with a surface of said base, a movable jaw mounted in said yoke member for engaging and clamping the shank of the tool against said fixed jaw, and an operating screw for said movable jaw mounted in said WILLIAM A.
