To all whom it may concern: 1
Be it known that 1, CHARLES LEFKOWITZ, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Carboy, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention has for its object to provide a carboy of a novel constructionin which dowels are used to engage and hold resiliently in place the bottle disposed in the carboy.
Another object of the invention isto provide supporting members for the bottle, each constructed of a plurality of dowels having their ends extending into openings in shoul- ,der blocks which engage the inner sides of the carboy.
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following specification in which the preferred form of the invention is described:

By referring to the drawings it will be seen that the carboy has a hollow body, 5 with corner pieces 6, to which the said members of the hollow body are secured. Disposed in this hollow body 5, there are shoulder blocks 8 which may abut against the corner pieces 6 as illustrated in Fig.1 of the drawings. These shoulder blocks 8 which, in the construction shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings are eight in number, two abutting against each of the corner pieces 6, are provided with openings 9 in which are disposed the ends of dowels 10. The openings 9 are spaced apart and therefore the dowels in each set are spaced apart. These dowels are preferably round in cross section but it will be understood, that the dowels may be constructed of any desired form.
The ends of the dowels 10 abut against seats 11 in the openings 9 and serve to hold the shoulder blocks 8 spaced apart and abutting against the corner pieces 6.
From the above it will be understood that the dowels 10 are prevented from inward movement by the bottle, that the shoulder blocks 8 will also be prevented from moving inwardly. As the shoulder blocks abut against the sides 7 of the hollow body and also against the corner posts 6, any horizontal movement of the dowels and the shoulder blocks 8 will be prevented. While this is true it will be understood that should the dowels be damaged in any way, that the dowels together with the shoulder blocks 8 may be raised from the hollow body 5 to permit of replacement of any broken parts.
In the construction illustrated in Fig 3 of the drawings, the hollow body 5 together with its sides are constructed in the manner set forth but in this construction, the shoulder blocks 8 are triangular in cross section with surfaces 13 engaging inner surfaces of the side 7. These shoulder blocks 8 have openings 9 spaced apart in which the dowels 10 are disposed, the dowels 9 abutting against seats 11- in the shoulder blocks 8 to hold the said shoulder blocks spaced apart and in engagement with the inner surfaces of the side 7 The. dowels 10 are held outwardly by a bottle disposed in the carboy indicated by the dotted lines at 14.
At the bottom of the hollow body 5, there are disposed two shoulder blocks 15 which are provided with openings lb in which the ends of dowels 17 extend, the said dowels 17 serving as a cushion for the bottom of the bottle. The ends of the dowels 17 are disposed against seats 18, this serving to hold the shoulder blocks spaced apart and in engagement with the sides 7 of the hollow body.
The carboy which is the subject of this application is of a type which may be conveniently made in any desired size to take bottles from one to fifteen or more gallons.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. In a carboy a hollow body, a plurality of sets of members disposed in the hollow body the members in each. set being disposed substantially parallel and spaced apart and shoulder blocks spaced apart and engaging the inner surfaces of the hollow body, the shoulder blocks being provided each with openings spaced apart in which the ends of the members are disposed. In a carboy a hollow body, a plurality of sets of members disposed in the hollow body the members in. each .set being disposed substantially parallel and spaced apart and shoulder blocks spaced apart and engaging the inner surfaces of the hollow body, the shoulder blocks being provided each with openings spaced apart in which the ends of the members are disposed, the engagement of the members with the shoulder blocks seryin'g to hold the latter against the said inner surfaces of thehollow body.
In a carboy a hollow body, a plurality of sets of members disposed in the hollow body, the members of each set being spaced apart and the sets being disposed to form an angular figure and shoulder blocks spaced apart and engaging the inner surfaces of the hollow body, the shoulder blocks being provided each with openings spaced apart apart with their ends disposed in the openings.
5. In a cal-boy a hollow body, a plurality of sets of members disposed in the hollow body the members in each set being disposed substantially parallel and spaced apart and shoulder blocks angular in cross section which are spaced apart with surfaces engaging the inner surfaces 01" the hollow body, there being openings in each of the shoulder blocks in which the ends of the members extend. y
